Comparing Three Online Small and Medium Enterprise Directories

Wiku once had written his opinion on a wide-open opportunity to help Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). In that opinion, he said that despite SMEs owners’ knowledge about the internet is increasing, opportunities for business development as well as helping SMEs owners to develop their businesses, remains wide open.

This may be true because until today, this kind of business model keeps on sprouting. When I googled the keyword “SME Directory”, I found many websites have SME directory, whether it’s there for a very long time or newly made. But in my opinion, there are only 3 websites that deserve to be mentioned in providing listing service to SMEs in Indonesia. Those three websites are Promo UKMBisnis UKM (beta) and PlazaID.

This many not meet Wiku’s hope at the time to give a service that’s different and combine two or more existing services. The three directories are still a container to be a place to promote products and services offered by SMEs. At least, that can help SMEs to meet prospective clients. Let’s compare the three based on several things below.

Sophos: Indonesia Ranked Fourth on Spam Sender

Once again, I must reveal an ugly truth. After writing about Indonesia having the slowest internet speed among 50 countries surveyed by Google, I must talk about another bad news about Indonesia. Indonesia is ranked fourth in the list of countries that send the most spam. During January to March 2012, from 100 spam spread around the world, 5 of them shipped from Indonesia.

Indonesia’s rank goes up compared to last year’s third quarter. At that time, Indonesia was ranked eighth with contributing percentage of 3.3%.

MalesBanget Network Launches Slang Directory, KamusSlang

MBDC Network, who also own content site MalesBanget.com, launches its new product called KamusSlang. As the name implies, KamusSlang (literally “Slang Dictionary”) is an online Indonesian slang language dictionary. KamusSlang was made in order to preserve Indonesian slang language and make it easy for people to access it.

KamusSlang, located at www.kamusslang.com, is a site with user generated content. Users, registered or not, can add new words or add new meaning to the words that already exist. KamusSlang’s admin only moderates the content based on the completeness of the contents, definitions and appropriate way of writing. Editing process is done only to correct typographical error or adding links to related words.

In addition to the meaning of a word search facility, KamusSlang also provides translation feature that is similar to Google Translate. This translation feature translates a sentence inputted by user into standard language, ‘alay’ language, 80s language and internet language. When I tried on this feature, it seems that only the translation from standard language to ‘alay’ language that’s working properly.

Jago Kabo, A Collaboration of Game Developer and Indonesia Football Club

A crossbreed between music industry and game has already done by Touchten and Aquarius Musikindo. Games with football theme are also not a few. But I still think this game is different. Why? Because ChocoArts, the creator of this game is working directly with Persikabo (Persatuan Sepak Bola Indonesia Kabupaten Bogor – Association of Indonesian Football in Bogor), a football club which plays in First Division, to make a mobile football game specifically themed Persikabo.

This game is launched on Sunday, April 22, at the time of the match between Persikabo as the host against PSP Padang at Persikabo Stadium, Cibinong, Bogor. Several hours before the match, ChocoArts together with Persikabo management opened stands around the stadium to introduce this game to the Kabo Mania, the nickname for supporters of Persikabo which also the target of this game.

Jago Kabo game is simple. Players only need to make a penalty kick against the goalkeeper to play this game. This business model, which decided by both parties, is a great breakthrough made by a football club in Indonesia. Erwin Saleh, Operational Manager of Persikabo, in an article by the First Division, said that the presence of this game is one of the proofs that Persikabo is ready to develop its business aspect which is an important part of professional football era.
