Kaskus suffers from technical issues, leaving millions of users confused (update)

Kaskus, Indonesia’s biggest online community has been suffering from technical problem that prevents users to view their site for the past week or so. The problem was identified as issues related to Kaskus’ DNS and domain services.

Kaskus then made a sudden announcements and offline campaigns that they are rebranding from Kaskus.us to Kaskus.com, a surprise for most of their users. Kaskus invests in radio ads to help their users know about the changes although a quick search on Twitter reveals a lot of pissed and angry users demanding Kaskus to fix the problem.

PANDI Buka Kesempatan Perusahaan Jadi Registrar Domain .id

PANDI baru-baru ini mengumumkan bahwa mereka akan segera mengupdate sistem registrasi domain .id awal tahun depan. Sekarang ini PANDI mengadopsi sistem Single Point Registry System (SPRS) dan akan merubahnya menjadi Shared Registry System (SRS). Saat ini, SRS adalah sistem yang digunakan berbagai domain registrar di seluruh dunia.

Seperti yang dikemukakan oleh PANDI, perubahan sistem ini dimaksudkan untuk meningkatkan kualitas pelayanan registrasi domain untuk konsumen dan juga untuk membuka peluang bisnis baru bagi perusahaan seperti ISP dan penyedia hosting. PANDI To Allow Private Companies Apply for .id Domain Registrar

Indonesian domain authority (PANDI) recently announced that they will alter the domain registration system for .id domains early next year. They will shift from Single Point Registry System (SPRS) to Shared Registry System (SRS), the globally-adopted standard for domain registrations.

As PANDI states, this alteration is to increase the quality of services for domain registration service and also to open new business potentials for ISP and hosting providers. Budi Rahardjo Rejects Opening of .ID Domain

A few days ago, #StartupLokal mailing list was enlivened by a post from Budi Raharjo who happens to be the person in charge of ccTLD for Indonesia. He gave a statement in his blog saying that he disagrees with opening .id for public use. He prefers the domain to remain co.id, net.id, ac.id, .sch.id, .go.id, web.id, etc.

However, Budi Raharjo didn’t give any clear explanation why he doesn’t agree to open the second level domain .id. Here is his statement cited from his blog:

“Previously, I want to have in depth discussion about this, but the news spread to public is confusing. Even the news about it has been published by foreign media. It’s ambiguous”.

“Therefore, as the ccTLD ID, I state that I DO NOT AGREE with the use of domain.ID without second level domain (SLD). I hope it is understandable.”

Budi Rahardjo: “Tidak Setuju .ID Dibuka Begitu Saja”

Pagi ini, di milis resmi #StartupLokal diramaikan dengan sebuah post dari Budi Rahardjo. Budi adalah orang yang menjabat sebagai ccTLD ID, beliau memberikan statement pada blog-nya bahwa dia tidak setuju dengan dibukanya ~~second level~~ domain *.id dan kedepannya tetap akan menggunakan ~~third level~~ domain seperti .co.id, .net.id, .ac.id, .sch.id, .go.id, .web.id, dll.

Akan tetapi Budi Rahardjo tidak memberikan alasan dengan jelas atas ketidasetujuan dia dengan dibukanya second level domain *.id. Berikut statement Budi Rahardjo yang kami kutip dari blog:

PANDI Soon Releases Domain .biz.id for SMEs

PANDI (The Administrator for Indonesian Internet Domain) that manage the domain entity in Indonesia will release the new second level domain, .biz.id. Accordingly to the name, this domain is aimed for the business realm, especially for the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This domain is available to use starting from the early next year. It is still waiting for PANDI to migrate its infrastructure to more reliable system.

As cited from Tempo Interaktif, the registration of .biz.id domain will be same as the .web.id registration for personal user. What you need to register are simply ID Card (KTP) and Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP). The NPWP is a must although the small enterprises are not yet in level to pay the tax.

PANDI Segera Luncurkan Domain .biz.id untuk UKM

PANDI (Pengelola Nama Domain Internet Indonesia) yang mengurusi entitas domain Indonesia akan meluncurkan domain second level baru .biz.id. Sesuai dengan namanya, domain ini akan menyasar kalangan bisnis, terutama Usaha Kecil dan Menengah (UKM). Domainnya sendiri baru bisa mulai dipakai per awal tahun depan, menunggu PANDI memigrasikan infrastrukturnya ke sistem yang lebih handal.

Seperti dikutip dari Tempo Interaktif, pendaftaran domain .biz.id akan sebebas .web.id untuk perseorangan. Yang dibutuhkan hanyalah penyertaan KTP dan NPWP sebagai bukti wajib wajak — meskipun usaha kecil seperti ini belum tentu sudah mencapai level untuk membayar pajak. Sebagai perbandingan, untuk mendapatkan domain .co.id, perusahaan harus melampirkan dokumen legalitas perusahaan — misalnya PT, CV, UD dan lain sebagainya. Dengan adanya .biz.id ini, badan hukum perusahaan bukanlah keharusan lagi. Untuk sementara, .biz.id hanya bisa didaftarkan oleh pengguna Indonesia, sedangkan .web.id dan .my.id nantinya bakal bisa didaftarkan melalui registrar asing.

Pemerintah Indonesia Tunjuk GMO Registry Untuk Menangani Layanan Domain .id

Pemerintah Indonesia melalui PANDI (Pengelola Nama Domain Indonesia) baru-baru ini mengumumkan perusahaan yang berbasis di Tokyo, GMO Registry melalui mitra lokalnya PT Telematika Mitrakreasi untuk menangani layanan domain .id. GMO Registry mengklaim memiliki pengalaman internasional lebih dari 10 tahun dalam memberikan layanan domain standar serta menyediakan sistem registry yang stabil, aman dan scalable untuk domain Indonesia .id.

PT Telematika Mitrakreasi ternyata merupakan perusahaan joint-venture antara GMO Registry dan Corfina Capital Groups. Bagi mereka yang tidak mengenal Corfina, mereka adalah perusahaan di balik MicroAd yang baru saja diluncurkan dan juga Batavia Incubator. Keduanya, baik MicroAd dan Batavia Incubator bermitra dengan perusahaan Jepang, ternyata mereka memiliki niat yang kuat untuk membawa perusahaan-perusahaan teknologi Jepang ke Indonesia.

Indonesian Government Appoints GMO Registry To Handle .id Domain Services

Indonesian government through PANDI (government’s regulatory body for internet domains) recently announce Tokyo-based company GMO Registry through its local partner PT Telematika Mitrakreasi to handle .id domain services. GMO Registry claims over 10 years of international standard domain services and to provide stable, secure and scalable registry system for Indonesia’s .id domains.

PANDI and Devotion to Domain .id

News taken from CHIP Online stated that during the organization turnover of PANDI (Indonesian Internet Domain Caretaker), it changed the function from “registry” and “registar” in the same time, so there is only “registry” regulates and managed .id domain. “Registar” function that is to sell .id domain to costumers will be handled to each reseller who meet requirements, including foreign resellers.

The ownership of domains in Indonesia is not quite many. From 200 million domain names in internet, only 250 are registered in Indonesia. From that number, only 58 thousands use .id domain, or about only 23%. This is the fact stated by the new PANDI chairman, Andi Budimansyah. PANDI wants the increasing number of .id domain users from Indonesia.

It is not easy to get users’ interest in Indonesia to use .id in comparison to world-wide domains like .com, .net, or .org. There is also a trend to use domain as a part of the brand name or a word. PANDI realized that one of the reasons is the hard way to register .id domain. You should know the way around when you register .com domain, it needs not more than 5 minutes only.
