Hackonten Not Only Produces NewsReader Apps

Hackonten, an apps development competition of Nokia Development in cooperation with Gramedia Majalah, has done last Friday in Jakarta. The competition’s participants are required to use the API of Gramedia Majalah’s content and able to innovate by creating more than news reader apps.

That is explained by Narenda Wicaksono, Developer Manager of Nokia South East Asia. According to narenda, as reported by Kompas Tekno, many out of the box ideas and features came from the participants of the event. When usually media company only creating news reader, the participating developers develop apps using other technology to be put in the news reader apps.

65 developer groups are participating in this Hackonten event. They are challenged to make an app using the API of Gramedia Majalah’s groups: Idea, Kidnesia, Sekar, Chic, Intisari, Nakita, DuniaSoccer, Hai, TabloidNova, and Kawanku. Of the 65 participants, 12 are chosen to enter the semi final round.

Hackonten Tidak Hanya Menghasilkan Aplikasi NewsReader

Hackonten, kompetisi pengembangan aplikasi kerja sama antara Nokia Developer dengan Gramedia Majalah, selesai digelar Jumat kemarin di Jakarta. Peserta kompetisi yang diharuskan memakai API dari konten-konten Gramedia Majalah, berhasil berinovasi dengan membuat lebih dari sekedar aplikasi news reader.

Hal tersebut salah satunya diungkapkan oleh Narenda Wicaksono, Developer Manager Nokia South East Asia. Menurut Narenda, seperti dikutip oleh Kompas Tekno, banyak ide dan fitur yang bersifat out of the box muncul dari para peserta acara ini. Kalau biasanya perusahaan media sekedar hanya membuat aplikasi news reader, para pengembang yang mengikuti kompetisi ini mengembangkan aplikasi dengan menggunakan teknologi lain untuk dihadirkan dalam aplikasi news reader.

Nokia Developer and Gramedia Majalah Holds Hackonten

Creating mobile applications as a promotional media seems to be an increasingly common thing to do in Indonesia where mobile devices have been very well adopted. Instead of hiring a developer to create an app, more and more companies are running competitions. Almost at the same time as the Coding on the Beach event held by Nokia Developer and Taman Impian Jaya Ancol over the weekend, Nokia and Gramedia Majalah will is holding what they call Hackonten.

Hackonten is an application development competition for Nokia devices (Asha and Lumia) in which developers will create apps using content from the Gramedia Majalah family. The apps will use content derived from Gramedia properties; Idea, Kidnesia, Sekar, Chic, Intisari, Nakita, DuniaSoccer, Hai, Tabloid Nova, and Kawanku.

On the first stage, interested developers are only asked to send the app concepts to the Hackonten website. This stage had been opened since June 11th and will close on June 20, 2012. Judges will then select 100 developers to be invited to participate in Hackonten from June 28-29, 2012 at Gramedia Majalah building in Jakarta. At the 24 hour coding event, participants will be asked to develop the apps as described in their submissions.

At the end of the coding process, the top 10 developers will be chosen to present their apps in front of the judges for five minutes each. At the end of it the judges will select the winner and two runners up who will receive cash prizes of Rp 20 million, Rp 10 million, and Rp 5 million respectively.

Nokia Developer dan Gramedia Majalah Selenggarakan Hackonten

Membuat aplikasi mobile sebagai media promosi sekarang tampaknya makin lazim dilakukan di Indonesia yang memang penetrasi mobile-nya begitu luas. Dan alih-alih memesan sebuah aplikasi dari seorang pengembang, ada cara lebih menarik untuk membuat aplikasi promosi tersebut: mengadakan kompetisi. Ya, hampir bersamaan dengan Taman Impian Jaya Ancol menyelenggarakan Ancol Games Developer Competition: Coding on the Beach, Nokia Developer bekerja sama dengan Gramedia Majalah menyelenggarakan acara Hackonten.

Hackonten adalah sebuah kompetisi pengembangan aplikasi untuk perangkat Nokia (Nokia Asha dan Nokia Lumia) oleh pengembang dengan menggunakan konten-konten dari keluarga Gramedia Majalah. Aplikasi yang dikembangkan harus menjadikan rujukan dan mengambil konten dari media berikut: Idea, Kidnesia, Sekar, Chic, Intisari, Nakita, DuniaSoccer, Hai, TabloidNova, dan Kawanku.

Pada tahap pertama, pengembang yang berminat mengikuti acara ini hanya diminta untuk mengirimkan konsep aplikasi yang ingin dibuat ke situs acara ini di www.hackonten.com. Pengiriman konsep ini dimulai sejak 11 Juni yang lalu, sampai dengan 20 Juni 2012. Selanjutnya, juri menentukan 100 besar pengembang untuk diundang pada event Hackonten pada tanggal 28-29 Juni 2012 di di Gedung Gramedia Majalah, Jakarta. Pada event coding selama 24 jam tersebut, peserta diminta mengembangkan aplikasi sesuai konsep yang dikirimkan.
