Event Review: Celebrating Bancakan 2.0’s First Anniversary

DailySocial, Rama and I, were absolutely excited to participate in Bancakan 2.0’s meetup on 25-27 February 2011 at Hotel Hyatt Yogyakarta, and we were right. The event was organized well and their welcome was very warm.

This was my first time attending their event and I was totally impressed with Jogjanese spirit, both committee’s and participants’. The total participants were 200 people out of 240 people registered online. Bancakan 2.0 meetup this time was very special because it also happened to be their 1st anniversary and collaborated with Nokia. It wasn’t only for one day but for three days in a row. 1st day’s theme was Mobile Apps and Game, and the next two days’ theme was Qt Smartphone and Developer Day of workshop and hackday.

Frustrating Koprol Curators

This post, though it looks personal, would like to bring forward one of the problems I’m going through as Koprol users and its process in adding venue, which might not only happened to me, but also to others. One of the features provided related to adding venue is Curator. This facility differs Koprol from similar service such as Gowalla.

Curator is in charge for approving or disapproving venue addition venue suggestions submitted by Koprol’s users. Every submission of venue suggestion will be checked and verified by curators. Everyone can be curators, by actively provide useful information in Koprol.

From explanation on Koprol’s blog, they appointed curators to maintain venue quality so that it cannot be duplicated and more manageable. They are also authorized to eliminate strange venues such as “20th floor toilet” or “my bed”.

Suaramu.com: Record, Play and Share (Updated)

Networking in virtual world becomes an ordinary activity nowadays. People are infatuated with social networking sites, local and international. Sharing photos, text, status, and links becomes normal bordering to routine activities.

However, one website creates its own market by providing social network facility, only this one with voice, Suaramu.com. The service that passed second stage of INAICTA 2010 provides service that enables users to record their voice, play it, and then share it with their friends. Like other social networks, status (in form of voice) can be commented or listened to. ‘Suara’ means ‘voice’ in Indonesian language.

At the moment Suaramu.com is still in alpha version and needs invitation to try their facilities. I’ve my invitation so I was able to try some of the facilities.

FashionPrivate.com: 1st Anniversary, new CEO, and CityDeals service

FashionPrivate.com, a website offering fashion products, is welcoming its 1st anniversary and just appointed the new CEO. Launched on February 2010, users who want to purchase their products are required register themselves. FashionPrivate, according to its name, applies invitation-only system for fashionistas.

From official release we received, at present FashionPrivate has over 100.000 registered members. Its products are chosen products with members-only discount up to 90%, only valid for 3-5 days.

Indonesia Bercerita: Children’s Stories Podcast Service

DailySocial had featured several social activity web/internet services, among others are C3friends, a social network aimed for people who suffer from cancer, and another social activity related service Indonesia Bercerita.

I’ve heard of this website and service since a while back, and when one of my friends, a researcher from Netherlands asked me if there’s any local website that provide children story telling service or some kind, it came to mind.

Then I remember that Indonesiabercerita.org provides podcast (mp3) of various children stories. On their website we can listen to children stories podcast directly or download various kind of stories available, all for free.

Info Lalu Lintas Provides ’Others’ Feature and Facebook Login

After officially announcing their mobile site look and use, infoll.mobi, user generated content service for exchanging information on big cities’ traffics added several new facilities such as Others and login using Facebook account.

Traffic Information (Infoll) mobile website new looks presents new formats such as requesting traffic report or to report traffic on certain areas. One of the most prominent things is color code usage to facilitate street condition recognition, such as red for traffic jam and green for no traffic jam, equipped with punctuation for color blinds.

Disdus’ New Division: Disdus Gadget

I was thinking of buying a hard drive when Disdus sent me an email regarding discount information. After reading the email, it turns out that this offer came from their new division which provides gadget offers.

Disdus is discount coupon service provider which offers discount in every two days. Last year they were funded by and join the big family of East Ventures.

MantelApp Released Their New Look and Features and Starts Applying Freemium Model

IdeaLounge, developer of MantelApp, released the new look for MantelApp.com. The collaborated application is now looking fresh with updated design element and some other changes related with user interface. Other than that, they also released new features and announced price for their service packages.

MantelApp, also the winner of SparxUp Award 2010 provide facilities for those who need to work in the same time with their relations, colleagues, or client. They can do their collaborated work on the same place, delegating work, downloading files, and discussing or writing status of their work on progress.

LewatMana.com, One of the 10 Netexplorateur Award Winners (+Interview)

End of January this year another news of Indonesia’s startup winning international award popped up. After GantiBanju.com and KrazyMarketthe winner of SparxUp Award 2010 for The Most Promising Startup, LewatMana.com, became one of the ten Netexplorateur Award of The Year 2011 winners.

The news was published on LewatMana.com’s blog at the end of January. The award itself was held at Paris on 3 February 2011. LewatMana’s blog explains that Netexplorateur Award of The Year is hold annually since 2008. Netexplorateur is an organization supported by The Senate and Prime Minister of France, and over 200 experts all over the world (journalist, scientist, academics) watching over technology usage in internet and digital world.

LintasBerita with Their New Appearance

As written previously in DailySocial (IND), LintasBerita finally applied their website’s new appearance fully after previously was only optional. Introduction for this new appearance was on the end of Deecember, and is now applied fully on the end of January.

The new appearance consists of three columns, with main column is LintasBerita’s contents in the middle, left column is for Category or Channels, and right column is for advertisement and weekly best news and most popular contributors.

Looking at screenshot from their previous new appearance’s preview, there are some differences in their appearance now applied, such as longer “News Flash” feature column, additional column on the right side consisting weekly best news, special column on the upper side for submitting news, and other different design element.
