RIM Rilis PlayBook 2.0, Kebangkitan PlayBook?

Satu dari kebijakan RIM yang ditunggu-tunggu akhirnya tiba. Selasa, 21 Februari kemarin, RIM merilis sistem operasi terbaru untuk tablet Blackberry PlayBook. Pengguna tablet ini mulai bisa mengunduh sistem operasi terbaru ini secara gratis. Dalam rilis beritanya, RIM mengklaim bahwa BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 yang baru akan menyajikan peningkatan pengalaman dalam menggunakan tablet, agar penggunanya dapat membuat setiap momen menjadi yang terbaik dengan menggunakan BlackBerry PlayBook mereka dengan cara-cara baru di kesehariannya baik saat kerja maupun bermain.

Tidak banyak kejutan yang dihadirkan RIM dalam update ini. Sistem operasi ini memungkinkan PlayBook menjalankan aplikasi Android yang sudah di-convert, seperti yang sudah dibahas di DailySocial sebelumnya. Selain itu, akhirnya, PlayBook 2.0 mempunyai aplikasi bawaan yang memungkinkan pengguna menerima email dari PlayBook-nya.

Alih-alih untuk menarik pengguna baru, update PlayBook ini lebih terkesan sebagai pemuas untuk mereka yang sudah mempunyai PlayBook. Aplikasi email ini memang memungkinkan pengguna untuk menerima email dari beberapa akun, tetapi ini bukan suatu kelebihan. Hampir semua tablet Android dan iPad sudah bisa melakukan ini sejak pertama kali diluncurkan.

JobsDB Launched Mobile Application for Smartphone in Indonesia

One of the largest employment information services in Indonesia, JobsDB announced the mobile application for a variety of smartphone platforms. At the same time, mobile JobsDB is now available on BlackBerry App World, App Store for IOS, Nokia Store, and Samsung Apps. So far I know, JobsDB in neighbouring countries is already available for at least three major platforms, BlackBerry, IOS, and Android. A part of Southeast Asia as the main market, JobsDB is also available for East Asia, India, Australia and the United States market.

The comfort for using JobsDB for searching jobs seems to be more fun via smartphone. With a few clicks, we can find the desired job, send your CV directly from the smartphone or share them with friends via email or social networking. There is also a feature to store information of your favourite job.

How to Register to S Apps Planet

In the previous article I was talking about S Apps Planet released by S Nexian. This mobile application store will present as a pre-loaded for new S Nexian Android smartphone. With the ads that have been circulating everywhere, in a large billboard and in a media, everyone in this industry must assume that S Nexian is working seriously on this app store business.

However, if we try to navigate various menus on the S Nexian official site, there is no information at all about how the developer could register their Android application into S Apps Planet. I tried contacting S Nexian and got a reply saying Iguana Technology is in charge for the application registration process. Finally, Iguana Technology Representative, Linda Regina provides information on how the developer can register the application.

S-Nexian and Local Mobile Application Stores

S-Nexian is preparing to launch a mobile app store, Apps Planet, that will be pre-loaded in the ranks of their Android smartphone soon.

S-Nexian could be considered a local mobile phone vendor with the largest market share, has teamed up with five GSM operators for using operator billing payment system. Details about the Apps Planet still can’t be informed here; however we will inform the details once the information is clear. In my opinion, what is becoming a wedge for me is local application store.

Previously, the three major operators,Telkomsel, Indosat, and XL have set up their own local mobile application stores. Some of them even (with the euphoria) invited special developer to present a business scheme that will be run. As for XL at the initial launch of their BlackBerry service, they have been partnering with Better-B and providing pre-loaded XL Mall. The result now is? None of the local application stores survived.

Why there is barely no local application store survive? Although I wasn’t involved directly in that three stores applications, it seems clear that there is no clear commitment between both parties; operator as an owner and developer as a store filler. With a limited number of applications and smartphone market as well, of course, this segment isn’t feasible to proceed for long term – especially in terms of financial and monetization.

Inilah Cara Mendaftar Aplikasi Mobile ke S Apps Planet

Beberapa hari yang lalu saya sempat membahas tentang S Apps Planet yang dirilis oleh S Nexian. Toko aplikasi mobile ini bakal hadir secara pre-loaded untuk setiap smartphone Android baru S Nexian. Dengan iklan yang sudah beredar di mana-mana, baik di baliho besar pinggir jalan maupun di media cetak, setiap orang di industri ini pasti menganggap S Nexian sangat serius menggarap bisnis toko aplikasi ini.

Meskipun demikian, jika kita mencoba menavigasi ke berbagai menu di situs resmi S Nexian, tidak ada informasi sama sekali tentang bagaimana cara pengembang mendaftarkan aplikasi Android-nya ke S Apps Planet. Saya mencoba mengontak pihak S Nexian dan mendapat jawaban bahwa pihak Iguana Technology lah yang in charge untuk pendaftaran aplikasi. Akhirnya representatif dari Iguana Technology, Linda Regina, memberikan informasi bagaimana caranya agar pengembang bisa mendaftarkan aplikasinya.

S-Nexian dan Toko Aplikasi Mobile Lokal

S-Nexian dikabarkan segera meluncurkan toko aplikasi mobile Apps Planet yang bakal pre-loaded di dalam jajaran smartphone Android-nya. S-Nexian yang bisa dibilang merupakan vendor ponsel lokal dengan pangsa pasar terbesar telah bekerja sama dengan lima operator GSM untuk sistem pembayaran menggunakan operator billing (atau di sini lebih dikenal sebagai potong pulsa). Rincian tentang Apps Planet masih belum kami dapat di sini — akan kami informasikan kemudian detailnya jika sudah ada informasi jelas. Yang mungkin masih menjadi ganjalan bagi saya adalah adanya toko aplikasi lokal.

Dulu, tiga operator besar yaitu Telkomsel, Indosat, dan XL sudah pernah mendirikan toko aplikasi mobile lokalnya sendiri. Beberapa malah dengan gempita mengundang pengembang khusus untuk mempresentasikan skema bisnis yang bakal dijalankannya. XL malah dari awal peluncuran layanan BlackBerry-nya sudah menggandeng Better-B dan memberikan aplikasi XL Mall secara pre-loaded. Hasilnya sekarang? Tidak ada satupun toko aplikasi lokal yang bertahan.

RIM Continues to Embrace Developers to Boost PlayBook App Numbers

Some people may think that RIM is getting desperate in trying to improve the sales of its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet because in recent months, it had been dropping its prices to a level below US $200. More recently, RIM announced through its BlackBerry Developer Blog that it will give away PlayBooks to developers who want to port their Android apps to run on the PlayBook.

These moves by RIM could be seen as desperate measures On the other hand, you could say that RIM is investing to rise again. As discussed previously in DailySocial, RIM continues to embrace a variety of developer communities, including Android developers, to boost the number of applications that can be run on different devices made by RIM.

Back at CES 2012, RIM announced that PlayBook 2.0 operating system will be equipped with a runtime which enables it to run Android applications. Furthermore, in late January, RIM released three tools to make it easier for Android developers to port their apps to be compatible with the PlayBook.

Jakarta to host 2012 Google Android DevCamp

Google will hold its 2012 Google Android DevCamp in Jakarta as well as in Singapore and it will simultaneously in 50 cities around the world on 18th-19th February 2012. In Indonesia, this event will be organized by CodeAndroid Indonesia and supported by Frans Thamura. We haven’t obtained the event’s complete schedule yet but as an event for developers certainly it won’t be far away from the coding activity. They will also hold a feature presentation for Android smartphones and tablets.

The event will be held at Binus International – Hang Lekir, Jakarta. If you want to sign up and find out more about this you can refer to the event page here. For you who want to know about 2012 Google Android DevCamp globally, you can check their Google Plus account.

RIM Terus Rangkul Developer untuk Dongkrak Aplikasi

Beberapa kalangan mungkin berpikir bahwa RIM mulai putus asa dalam menaikkan penjualan tablet Blackberry Playbook miliknya. Pasalnya, dalam beberapa bulan terakhir, harga Blackberry Playbook terus dipangkas hingga mencapai angka di bawah 200 US Dollar. Yang paling aktual, melalui Blackberry Developer’s Blog, RIM mengumumkan akan memberikan Blackberry Playbook terbaru secara gratis. Playbook gratis ini akan diberikan kepada developer yang mau meng-convert aplikasi Android miliknya, hingga bisa dijalankan ke tablet Blackberry.

Berbagai kebijakan RIM ini, mungkin terlihat sebagai langkah-langkah putus asa. Namun sebenarnya, bisa dibilang RIM sedang berinvestasi untuk bisa bangkit lagi. Seperti yang pernah dibahas di Daily Social, RIM terus berusaha untuk merangkul berbagai komunitas developer, termasuk developer Android, untuk mendongkrak jumlah aplikasi yang bisa berjalan di berbagai perangkat besutan RIM.

Seperti diketahui, pada pergelaran CES 2012 yang lalu, RIM mengumumkan bahwa sistem operasi Playbook 2.0 akan dilengkapi dengan runtime yang memungkinkannya bisa menjalankan aplikasi Android. Selanjutnya, pada akhir Januari, RIM memanjakan developer Android dengan merilis 3 pilihan tools untuk developer Android yang ingin meng-convert aplikasi Androidnya agar bisa dijalankan di Blackberry Playbook. Dalam rilis tersebut, RIM menjamin kemudahan proses converting dengan tools telah disediakan.

Google Android DevCamp 2012 Bakal Hadir di Jakarta

Google akan mengadakan acara Google Android DevCamp 2012 yang secara serentak akan diadakan di setidaknya 50 kota di dunia pada tanggal 18-19 Februari mendatang. Di Indonesia sendiri acara akan diorganisir CodeAndroid Indonesia yang digawangi oleh Frans Thamura. Jadwal acara lengkap belum kami peroleh, tapi sebagai acara untuk developer tentu saja tidak akan jauh-jauh dari kegiatan coding. Selain itu juga akan diadakan bedah fitur untuk smartphone dan tablet Android.

Acaranya sendiri akan diadakan di Binus International – Hang Lekir, Jakarta. Anda yang ingin mendaftar dan mengetahui lebih lanjut bisa mengacu ke laman acara tersebut. Komunitas pengembang Android juga bisa mengikuti milis diskusi Code Android Indonesia untuk informasi yang komprehensif. Anda yang ingin mengetahui Google Android DevCamp 2012 secara global bisa juga menengok akun Google Plus-nya.

Sungguh menarik bahwa di waktu yang bersamaan, terdapat dua acara di dua platform smartphone populer yang berbeda. Jika Anda lebih tertarik dengan platform iOS dan bahasa pemrograman Objective-C, kami juga menyelenggarakan ID-Objective Conference yang akan diadakan di Bandung.
