Google Quietly Released Leaderboard, Is It A Threat To Competitors?

Last week, Google announced the latest release version of Google Maps for Android via @googlemaps Twitter account. In its tweet, Google announced the latest release to improve battery performance for Latitude application and history location users. It turns out that within Latitude app in Google Maps is a secretly embedded new feature called Leaderboard.

The exciting thing is the Leaderboard feature is similar to services available at Foursquare. According to The Verge, with the Leaderboard feature, user will get points when doing check-in; these points will then be compared with existing friends in Google+ circle. In addition, the leaderboard will be equipped with a status level; Visitor, regular, VIP and teachers depend on the user frequency level at the specific place. The difference with Foursquare is Leaderboard does not have Mayor status for the most frequent check-in user at the site.

Koprol Telah Transisi ke Website Baru, Namun Masih Belum Jelas Mau Apa

Koprol pertama kali memperkenalkan versi beta situs baru mereka pada bulan Juli yang lalu dan merilis juga beberapa fitur seperti hover cards, stamps, hot tags, dan onboarding. Pada hari Selasa, akhirnya mereka menyelesaikan transisi dari desain yang lama dan memindahkan situs beta ke alamat Koprol yang utama. Pengguna Koprol tidak lagi harus mengakses new.koprol.com untuk menggunakan versi yang telah diperbarui.

Selama enam bulan terakhir, Koprol telah bekerja keras dalam memberikan fitur baru, aplikasi, kemitraan serta meluncurkan layanan mereka di Filipina. Anda juga dapat membaca berbagai hal tentang Koprol di DailySocial, namun sejak saya menuliskan surat cinta untuk Koprol pada bulan Agustus lalu, saya belum melihat adanya perkembangan yang serius yang bisa membuat Koprol lebih populer di Indonesia, apalagi ASEAN. Dan pada tahap ini, Anda mungkin bisa melupakan Asia. Lokalisasi layanan adalah satu hal tetapi membuat orang untuk menggunakannya adalah suatu hal yang berbeda.

Koprol Transitions to New Website, Still Unsure Where It’s Going

Koprol first introduced its new beta site back in July which features hover cards, stamps, hot tags, and onboarding. On Tuesday it finally completed its transition from the old design and brought forward the beta site to Koprol’s primary address. Koprol users will no longer have to go to new.koprol.com to use the revamped version.

Over the past six months, Koprol has been hard at work in delivering new features, apps, and partnerships, as well as launching in The Philippines and you can read about those guys on our pages here on DailySocial but ever since publishing that love letter back in August, I haven’t seen any serious push to make Koprol more popular in Indonesia, let alone ASEAN, and at this stage, you can probably forget Asia. Localizing the service is one thing but getting people to use it is a whole different ball game.

Jadi Kapan Bouncity untuk iPhone Akan Dirilis?

Pada hari Jumat kemarin, Bouncity akhirnya meluncurkan aplikasi Android mereka. Walaupun Bouncity sebelumnya hanya memiliki satu aplikasi, yaitu untuk BlackBerry, sebenarnya telah tersedia juga versi mobile web sejak Agustus lalu. Pada peluncuran Bouncity di awal Juni, tim dibalik pengembangan layanan ini telah berjanji untuk merilis aplikasi untuk iPhone dan Android pada akhir Juli, tetapi jelas peluncurannya tertunda.

Keputusan untuk meluncurkan aplikasi BlackBerry sebelum versi lain berdasarkan alasan bahwa terdapat jumlah serta aktivitas pengguna jaringan sosial di Indonesia yang signifikan berpusat di ponsel BlackBerry. Meski pengguna mobile internet di Indonesia bukan berpusat pada smartphone, namun mereka belum tentu merupakan target market dari layanan Bouncity.

Pada bulan Juli, COO Bouncity, Kevin Osmond telah memperlihatkan tampilan dari aplikasi Bouncity untuk iPhone ini nantinya, ia juga mengakui bahwa aplikasi itu mungkin hadir agak lama – beberapa bulan lagi, meskipun Kevin tidak menjelaskan alasan penundaan rilis.

So Where is Bouncity for iPhone?

On Friday Bouncity launched its long awaited Android app. While the location based activity game had only one app until this point, which is for BlackBerry, it had also been available as a mobile web version since August. At Bouncity’s launch in early June, the team had promised to release the iPhone and Android apps by the end of July but clearly both were delayed.

The decision to launch the BlackBerry app before any other version had been due to the significant number and activities of social network users in Indonesia being on BlackBerry phones. The majority of Indonesians with mobile Internet however, are not on smartphones but they may not necessarily be the market segment that Bouncity is after anyway. Situs Foursquare Versi Bahasa Indonesia Tampaknya Masih Perlu Perbaikan

Sebelumnya saya telah menuliskan tentang update terbaru aplikasi Foursquare yang membawa lima tambahan bahasa. Untuk terjemahan bahasa Indonesia yang ada di aplikasi, hasil yang ada sepertinya cukup baik. Tidak ada kesalahan standar yang biasanya terjadi dari hasil terjemahan yang dilakukan penerjemah non-native. Sayangnya tidak demikian yang terjadi di situs Foursquare.

Seperti yang saya katakan di tulisan sebelumnya, hasil terjemahan di aplikasi mungkin memiliki tantangan yang lebih terbatas karena lingkup terjemahannya relatif kecil dan tidak ada bagian teks yang cukup banyak yang harus diterjemahkan. Mayoritas teks yang diterjemahkan hanya satu atau dua kata, teks yang paling panjang hanya satu atau dua kalimat. Namun menerjemahan seluruh situs ke bahasa Indonesia jelas merupakan tugas yang jauh lebih menantang.

Update Terbaru dari Aplikasi Foursquare,Tambahkan Lima Fasilitas Bahasa Baru

Seperti yang dituliskan DailySocial beberapa hari yang lalu, update terbaru untuk aplikasi mobile Foursquare mendukung bahasa Indonesia, Rusia, Thailand, Portugis, dan Korea. Kelima bahasa ini menambah fasilitas bahasa Foursquare lainnya yaitu bahasa Prancis, Jerman, Italia, Jepang, Spanyol, dan tentu saja Inggris. Dengan dukungan terbaru ini, kini Foursquare tersedia dengan sebelas bahasa yang digunakan oleh lebih dari 1.5 miliar penduduk Bumi. Meski sebagian besar dari mereka tidak menggunakan layanan ini, setidaknya fasilitas pilihan bahasa tersedia bagi mereka yang membutuhkannya.

Jika saat itu kami hanya mendapatkan informasi tentang pembaruan aplikasi Foursquare untuk BlackBerry, ternyata update kali ini membawa dukungan bahasa untuk aplikasi Foursquare di iPhone, Android, dan BlackBerry. Untuk mengubah bahasa, Anda harus mengatur bahasa perangkat Anda sesuai dengan bahasa yang ingin Anda gunakan. Aplikasi yang telah memiliki dukungan atas bahasa baru (telah di update) nantinya akan mendeteksi dan mengatur bahasa yang digunakan perangkat Anda, sedangkan aplikasi yang tidak mendukung bahasa yang dipilih akan tetap menggunakan bahasa bawaan, yang sebagian besar adalah bahasa Inggris. Jika Anda tidak tertarik untuk menggunakan bahasa lokal, maka Anda tidak perlu mengubah apapun.

Foursquare’s Indonesian apparently still needs work

Earlier I posted about Foursquare’s latest app update which brings support to five more languages to the location-based service. Within the apps, it looks like the translation job was pretty spot on. It didn’t trip on the usual pitfalls that tend to catch non-native speakers unawares. Unfortunately the same can’t be said of the website.

As I said in the previous post, the apps may well present very little challenge as the scope of the translations was relatively limited and there were no large blocks of text that had to be translated with the majority being just one or two words, the longest being just a sentence or two. The website however, clearly presented a much more challenging task.

Foursquare updates its apps to support five more languages

Just as we posted the other day, the latest updates to Foursquare’s mobile apps carry with it support for Indonesian, Russian, Thai, Portuguese, and Korean. These five new languages join French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, and of course, English. The breadth of support gives Foursquare native language for more than 1.5 billion people, though the majority of which obviously don’t use the service, but at least it’s there for those who want it.

While we were only informed of the changes to the BlackBerry app, today’s update actually brings the additional language support to the iPhone, Android, and BlackBerry apps. To switch languages you’ll need to set your device’s language to your own. Apps that have support for your choice of language will switch along, those who do not will remain with its default language, most of which would be English. If you’re not keen on using your local language on your device then there’s no need to bother.
