Jakarta Heats Up for International Space Apps Challenge

DailySocial, in collaboration with the Embassy of the United States in Indonesia and with American cultural center @america, are holding International Space Apps Challenge on April 21-22. The Space Apps Challenge is an event for software developers to come up with programs or applications that solve particular challenges and tasks that may help NASA and scientists worldwide in figuring out various global issues. The event is being held globally across more than twenty cities as well as on the International Space Station currently orbiting the planet.

With the International SpaceApps Challenge coming up in just under two weeks, we spoke with Alice Llewellyn from the core organizing team to reveal more about the event, the motivation behind it, and what is expected from having held this competition. We also asked why Jakarta was chosen as one of the host cities when Indonesia has not been known to be a space-oriented nation. The interview is available after the jump.

Calling All Hackers: NASA Hadirkan International Space Apps Challenge ke Indonesia

Kami sangat senang untuk mengumumkan bahwa kami bekerja sama dengan teman-teman dari US Embassy Jakarta serta NASA untuk membawa acara International Space Apps Challenge (ISAC) ke Jakarta.

ISAC adalah kolaborasi akselerasi internasional yang berfokus pada pengembangan solusi inovatif untuk memecahkan masalah penting dari planet kita. Acara International Space Apps Challenge ini akan diselenggarakan di tujuh benua – serta di angkasa – pada tanggal 21 – 22 April 2012. Di Jakarta, acara hackathon akan diadakan di @America, Pacific Place Jakarta serta di kantor pusat DailySocial – yang tidak terlalu jauh dari lokasi utama acara.

Para hacker bisa bekerja secara individu atau tim, dan platform agnostic jadi Anda bisa memilih platform apapun untuk acara hackathon ini. Solusi yang dikembangkan bisa berupa aplikasi mobile, desktop atau web. Apapun! Dan setiap kode yang disusun akan dijadikan sebagai proyek open source.

Calling All Hackers: NASA brings International Space Apps Challenge to Indonesia

We are super excited to announce that we will be working together with friends from US Embassy Jakarta and NASA to bring International Space Apps Challenge (ISAC) to Jakarta, Indonesia.

ISAC is an international collaboration that accelerates the development of solutions focused on building innovative solutions to solve critical issues on our planet. The International Space Apps Challenge will take place on all seven continents – and in space – on 21-22 April 2012. In Jakarta, the hackathon will takes place at @America, Pacific Place mall Jakarta and also DailySocial’s HQ not too far from the main venue.
