Lazada Dapatkan Pendanaan $40 Juta dari Kinnevik

Di bulan September lalu, kami menjadi yang pertama memberitakan tentang investasi J.P. Morgan Asset Management di salah satu startup e-commerce milik Rocket Internet, Lazada. Bulan ini, Lazada yang fokus di kawasan Asia Tenggara kembali memperoleh pendanaan yang besar. Kali ini berasal dari Investment AB Kinnevik, sebuah perusahaan investasi asal Swedia. Lazada menginformasikan nilai investasinya mencapai $40 juta (Rp 385 miliar).

J.P. Morgan Konfirmasi Investasi di Lazada

Salah satu perusahaan pemimpin global dalam bidang manajemen investasi, J.P. Morgan Asset Management, melalui perusahaan mereka di Jerman, mengkonfirmasi investasi yang mereka lakukan di Lazada milik Rocket Internet yang beroperasi di Asia Tenggara. J.P. Morgan berinvestasi dalam bentuk kepemilikan saham Lazada. Kami memberitakan hal ini sebelumnya bahwa J.P. Morgan akan berinvestasi besar di Lazada, dengan jumlah dana yang memecahkan rekor investasi untuk startup di region ini. JP Morgan Confirms Investment in Rocket Internet’s Lazada

A global leader in investment management, J.P. Morgan Asset Management, through its German holding confirms the investment in Rocket Internet’s Lazada that operates in Southeast Asia. J.P Morgan will take Lazada’s stake. We previously broke the news by saying J.P. Morgan will make heavy investment in Lazada, with record amount of any investment made to online startup in the region. Although not explicitly stated, The Next Web suggested the investment worth “upwards of $50 million”, according to source close to the company.

Rocket Internet’s Lazada Silently Outgrow Local E-Commerce Incumbents

Just launched early this year, Rocket Internet’s Lazada has become of the most e-commerce site with big traffic in par with other big local players such as Blibli, Plasa, Dinomarket and even Rakuten. Of course traffic explains nothing like numbers of transactions does, but it’s still interesting to see how Lazada slowly outgrow the incumbents.

Managing Director of Lazada Indonesia Resigns

We obtained information that Susie Sugden, Managing Director of Lazada Indonesia, has resigned. This is the second resignation of the top personnel in the Rocket Internet regional group in the last month after Nadiem Makarim decided to resign as Zalora Indonesia’s CEO in April. Lazada and Zalora are the cutting edge of Rocket Internet e-commerce business in Southeast Asia. Lazada is present in mid-May of this year and focusing in the area of electronic and household items.

Of course, the resignation of these two key personnel is intriguing among the instigators of the internet businessmen. Moreover, a few days ago, a large e-commerce company in Indonesia has formed an association to improve the quality of e-commerce ecosystem of Indonesia which is in the stage of growing – with a fast growth, according to the culture shift. Unfortunately, for the time being, we are still groping in the dark, what on earth is going on inside Rocket Internet.

Susie Sugden, prior to serve as Lazada Indonesia’s leader, was working for leading consulting firm, the Boston Consulting Group. Sugden has a social science background from University of Melbourne.
