Rakuten Belanja Online Akhirnya Diluncurkan Secara Resmi

Rakuten Belanja Online Finally Launched

Japan’s largest online commerce company Rakuten has officially launched Rakuten Belanja Online in Indonesia with Media Nusantara Citra (MNC) Group as its local partner. Rakuten Belanja Online or RBO is the company’s latest move to dominate the global online marketplace.

RBO’s marketplace had been active since March of this year but plans of the launch had to be postponed following the earthquake in Japan later that month.

Rakuten CEO Hiroshi Mikitani said, “RBO is expected to contribute to the growth of Indonesia’s e-commerce by empowering merchants and consumers through the power of the internet”.

The joint venture agreement with MNC Group as its partner ultimately came down to the size and reach of the group as a media powerhouse. According to MNC Group CEO Hary Tanoesoedibjo, the aim of the cooperation is to turn RBO into the country’s number one online mall by combining Rakuten’s expertise and experience with his group’s significant presence in the media industry which spans across television, radio, and print.

Memperkenalkan Dailylicio.us!

Investidea: Social Commerce Presents Biggest Opportunity in Indonesia

Following our story on Investidea’s investments in Bistip and Kartumuu, e27 did a little more digging and interviewed Charles Gandha, one of the partners at the company.

According to Gandha, Indonesia’s tech industry is about to explode and social commerce presents investors with the largest, and perhaps best opportunity to embrace the industry. The interview reveals more details about the company as well as highlighting certain aspects of the Indonesian technology industry.

Gandha himself is involved in two companies operating in the telecommunications and information services industries. He is president director at Lasmana Swasti Prashida, an infrastructure provider for telcos, and senior vice president at Scientek Computindo, a data storage solutions company.

Introducing Dailylicio.us!

As you know DailySocial is a blog covering primarily the Indonesian startup scene and the news and stories that we post tend to be of a more serious but relaxed nature. Since the scene exploded last year, we’ve been noticing a rash of activities, probably far too many for us to cover completely. Increasingly there have been bits and pieces of information that we think are important or worthy enough to share but not enough to warrant a blog post.

As we head to the weekend, we want to make a little announcement. We’re putting those bits into a separate blog that we call Dailylicious. We’re sharing info that you’d probably enjoy reading and sharing with your friends and colleagues and we’re using Tumblr to do it. Why Tumblr? Because it’s built for sharing stuff easily. Whether it’s a quote, an image, a link, or a short update, it’s already formatted accordingly. And it’s very laid back.

If you also have some cool info or hot tip that you would like us to share on Dailylicious, do let us know via the submission link. If you wish to remain as an anonymous tipster, tell us, otherwise we’ll publish your name along with it. So go check out Dailylicious now, and be entertained, startup style.

Another Friday, Another Yahoo! leaving his post

What is it with Fridays and word of Yahoo! employees leaving the company? We were informed that Jimmi Kembaren, who’s only been with Yahoo! Southeast Asia for just over a year, is leaving the company next month. He handles the technical side of business development, a position he’s held since February of this year. Previously he was partner support specialist and YDN evangelist at Yahoo.

Kembaren was hired in 2010 following Yahoo Open Hack Day in Jakarta in late 2009 where he created Twittermania which then evolved into Twiterus, an analytics engine for Indonesian tweets. As Twitter rolled out Local Trends in early 2010, Twiterus felt the heat and reworked itself to add a collection of popular links and news shared by Indonesians on Twitter. Just as Kembaren launched version two of Twiterus, he came aboard the purple ship and sold his project to Indo.com for an undisclosed sum.

Kembaren confirmed to DailySocial of his move just as he was about to board a plane to Hanoi this morning. As for his next project? He’s not talking yet although it’s likely to be another startup.
