Are Tech Conferences Worth Attending?

Indonesia’s technology startup community did not waste time in kicking 2012 off into high gear by holding the two-day Boost Asia conference which was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Jakarta on 17-18 January. The conference boasted a host of speakers and panelists from Japan, USA, Vietnam, and Indonesia and was attended by nearly 300 entrepreneurs, investors, other business people, the media, and even students.

I’m not going to go into much about the conference, that I’ll leave to Rama who will be able to talk about it much deeper. What I want to discuss however, is the effectiveness and appeal of conferences, especially tech industry conferences such as Boost or DailySocial’s very own SparxUp and whether it’s worth paying to attend them.

BlackBerry DevCon Asia Resmi Dipindahkan ke Singapura

Research In Motion secara resmi telah merilis rincian dari rencana pemindahan lokasi BlackBerry DevCon Asia yang sebelumnya direncanakan untuk digelar di Bangkok pada bulan Desember.

Seperti yang dituliskan sebelumnya, konferensi kini akan berlangsung di Singapura dengan tanggal yang sama yaitu 7 – 8 Desember 2011. Lokasi baru untuk penyelenggarakaan adalah di Suntec International Convention dan Exhibition Centre. Calon peserta yang tidak akan dapat menghadiri acara di tempat yang baru akan memiliki kesempatan untuk me-refund tiket mereka dalam waktu 48 jam. Kemungkinan kompensasi untuk biaya perjalanan akan ditujukan secara pribadi kepada masing-masing peserta.

BlackBerry Devcon Asia Officially Moved to Singapore

Research In Motion has officially released a detailed breakdown of the relocation plans for December’s BlackBerry Devcon that was scheduled to take place in Bangkok.

As we previously reported, the conference will now take place in Singapore while maintaining the 7-8 December dates. The new location will be at Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Delegates who will not be able to attend at the new venue will have their tickets refunded within 48 hours of cancelation. Possibility of compensation for travel fees will be addressed privately to each individual delegate.

Boost Conference to bring Dave McClure and Other Silicon Valley and Japanese Entrepreneurs to Jakarta

Jakarta is going to host the first Boost conference in 17-18 January next year at Intercontinental Hotel. Boost is a conference that aims to assist startups in in understanding scalability and growth to go from two bit garage company into a sizable business. With experienced entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley, Japan, and Indonesia headlining the event, it’s going to be a valuable event for founders to attend and gain insight.

At the moment, the technology startup scene in Indonesia is cooling off a little bit after the explosive growth in 2010 and earlier this year. There’s been little evidence that the massive interest in building tech startups in Indonesia has actually amounted to something equally large, but the drive is still there and it has sparked enormous interests from investors across the world, especially from Japan. It’s as if the momentum of the technology community is being picked up and responded in kind by foreign companies looking for growth and investment potentials.
