Novistiar Rustandi of Jakarta Founder Institute Talks About The First Graduates

The first class of Jakarta Founder Institute is about to graduate tonight. The last class was held last week and out the initial 43 founders, 13 managed to hang on until graduation day. Participants are expected to work even harder on their startups after going through a grueling semester full of business workshops, mentoring, and eliminations.

Among the 20 or so mentors during this first semester include Andi S. Boediman, Andy Zain, Izhak Jenie, Peter Vesterbacka, Phil Libin, and Nanda Ivens, which means the founders have been getting some serious mentorship, guidance, and lessons from industry veterans who have gone through almost everything to be where they are right now.

Ahead of tonight’s graduation, we caught up with Novistiar Rustandi, one of the directors at Jakarta Founder Institute and asked him what he thinks of the first graduates and their achievements. Check out the interview after the break.

Talking to Adeo Ressi About Entrepreneurship and Founders

A few weeks ago, Adeo Ressi of Founder Institute flew in to Jakarta to oversee the launch of Jakarta Founder Institute which is being held at Bina Nusantara University under the guidance of Andy Zain and Sanny Gaddafi as directors and about twenty mentors.

We caught up with Adeo Ressi following the launch and asked him of his opinions about the newest chapter of Founder Institute. He shared his views on Indonesian startup founders, his expectations of them in light of the rise in entrepreneurship in the country and a lot of other things.

In more general discussions, he spoke about entrepreneurs who focus on technology or the product versus those who seek to solve problems. Essentially though, he thinks it’s not a difficult issue to deal with and if a founder leans too much on the product, that’s what Founder Institute is for. If a founder is not passionate about his or her product, however, it would be more difficult to carry on. Some technical knowledge is clearly expected and sometimes a company is better served by a visionary than a business person when the product requires deep technical insights from the top.
