Daftar Publisher Game Terbaik di 2020 Versi Metacritic

2019 merupakan tahun gaming mengagumkan. Di kuartal pertama saja, bermunculan banyak kandidat Game of the Year. Respons positif gamer dan pers terhadap judul-judul tersebut tentu saja mengangkat kepopuleran perusahaan yang memublikasikannya. Dan selama satu dekade terakhir, situs agregat review Metacritic berupaya untuk terus mengapresiasi para publisher berprestasi dengan menyingkap ranking tahunan.

Meneruskan tradisinya, Metacritic baru saja mengumumkan daftar publisher terbaik di 2020 berdasarkan tinggi rendahnya review game yang dirilis di tahun lalu. Namun berbeda dari sebelumnya, Metacritic tak lagi membagi publisher dalam dua kelompok (besar dan kecil), namun memasukkan nama yang memublikasikan lima judul permainan atau lebih. Jika kurang dari itu, Metacritic tidak mencantumkannya.

Metode ini ternyata membuahkan hasil menarik dan tidak diduga. Ada sedikit catatan penting di sini: Metacritic tidak menyertai game yag dirilis publisher untuk iOS, kemudian mungkin susunannya sedikit membingungkan Anda – karena ada publisher dengan nilai rata-rata game lebih tinggi yang berada di urutan lebih rendah. Hal ini disebabkan oleh eksistensi dari permainan ber-Metascore 90 lebih serta judul-judul yang mempunyai ‘rapor merah’.

Gamer pintar tak akan lupa membaca review sebelum membeli game, tapi mereka yang bijaksana sudah pasti menyimak ulasan dari sumber berbeda. Inilah fungsi dari situs agregat seperti Metacritic: mengumpulkan seluruh ulasan dari media berbeda serta mengkalkulasi rata-rata dari skor reviewer. Berkat data tersebut, Metacritic bisa mencari tahu siapa saja publisher yang merilis judul-judul favorit.

Sejak 2011, Metacritic memulai sebuah tradisi berupa pengungkapan daftar publisher game terbaik selama setahun. Istilah terbaik di sini bukan ditakar dari kesuksesan mereka menjual permainan sebanyak-banyaknya, namun dihitung lewat penilaian kritikus profesional terhadap karya-karya digital yang mereka lepas. Dan di tahun 2018, Capcom keluar sebagai publisher nomor satu, mengalahkan nama-nama seperti Sega, EA dan Sony.

Metacritic membagi para publisher dalam dua kategori, yaitu ‘besar’ dan ‘menengah’. Publisher besar maksudnya ialah perusahaan yang merilis 12 game atau lebih dalam kurun waktu setahun, sedangkan publisher kelas menengah hanya melepas 5 sampai 11 judul selama 12 bulan. Sekali lagi, parameternya bukan dilihat dari aset ataupun modal pengembangan game.
