I don’t think anyone can deny it anymore – Ramadhan, aside from being the holiest month for Muslims around the world, is also a big month for businesses. Businesses can initiate special Ramadhan packages and discounts (especially food and beverages), and the clothing stores break out Muslim-themed collections and capitalize on the fact that most people (in Indonesia, at least) want to buy something new for Lebaran. And of course, Lebaran cakes are everywhere!

Ramadan Ends and Holiday Begins

The month of Ramadan has ended and what follows is a week-long institutionalised holiday across Indonesia, mandated by the government as people tend to go home to celebrate Eid, which happened to be yesterday. Like Thanksgiving in the US, Eid is a time for families to come together, to generally ask for forgiveness so they can start another year with a clean slate, and usually the kids get presents, or new clothes. It’s almost like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year all rolled in to one, if you’re not familiar with the tradition.

Google Sambut Bulan Suci Dengan Kanal Ramadhan di Youtube

Sebuah inisiatif untuk menyambut bulan suci Ramadhan, Google membuat sebuah kanal khusus berisi konten seputar Islam dan Ramadhan melalui situs video miliknya Youtube.

Kanal Ramadan ini berisi doa-doa yang dikumandang secara langsung dan real-time dari Mekah, Google juga menambahkan konten-konten premium dan pertunjukan bernuansa Ramadhan yang dapat diakses langsung oleh pengguna. Film, pertunjukan televisi,dan film pendek bernuansa lebaran tersedia untuk pengguna ketika menghabiskan waktu  menunggu berbuka puasa.

Tidak hanya itu, Google juga mengadakan sesi berbagi resep makanan berbuka puasa dari koki selebritis melalui Google Hangout.
