Fire at IDC 3D Takes Down Detik, Okezone, and Several Other Indonesian Websites

At quarter past eight on Sunday night, co-founder and chairman of Internet Data Center Indonesia, Johar Alam Rangkuti, tweeted that IDC 3D, which is one of the country’s primary data centers, located in South Jakarta, had to be shut down due to a “UPS blowout”. Further reports from Twitter say that the fire at IDC 3D right now is already under control after a number of fire trucks were dispatched to the site. An emergency shutdown of all servers and connections had to be initiated immediately to ensure no further damage caused by the smoke.

Everyone should now be already aware of what happened to Wired senior writer Mat Honan. A hacker clan wanted to take control of his @mat Twitter account simply because it only has three letters and in the process managed to break into his Apple, Amazon, Twitter, and Google accounts as well as Gizmodo’s Twitter account thanks to the different processes in how the services handle user password retrieval, the details of which are spelled out in Honan’s account of the events as well as here. Honan is a former writer for Gizmodo.

Urbanesia Akhirnya Membuka API Layanan Mereka

Urbanesia, yang kini dimiliki oleh Kompas Cyber Media, mengumumkan bahwa API dari layanan Urbanesia kini terbuka untuk publik dan bisa digunakan oleh siapapun yang membutuhkan data lokasi dan tempat untuk pengembangan aplikasi atau layanan. API ini tersedia secara gratis dan telah digunakan di 26 aplikasi termasuk milik Urbanesia sendiri. Seperti yang dikutip dari Kompas Tekno, data yang dimiliki Urbanesia bisa digunakan untuk menampilkan direktori yang lebih spesifik, misalnya menampilkan informasi restoran untuk lokasi tertentu. Daftar aplikasi yang ada bisa dilihat di Urbanesia App Gallery.

Beberapa pengembang telah menanyakan tentang API Urbanesia sejak layanan ini diluncurkan pada tahun 2010, namun baru saat ini API mereka tersedia bagi pihak yang membutuhkan. Database Urbanesia penuh oleh data lokasi dan daftar pelaku bisnis untuk daerah Jakarta dan sekitarnya serta area Bali namun belum tersedia secara menyeluruh di wilayah Indonesia.

Urbanesia Finally Opens its API

Kompas Cyber Media owned Urbanesia today revealed that it has opened its API to be used by anyone that requires the use of location and venue data within their apps or services. Urbanesia. The API is available for free and already in use by 26 apps including Urbanesia’s own. Kompas Tekno notes that Urbanesia’s data can be used to display more narrow directories such as displaying restaurants only or various tourist spots. The apps can be viewed on Urbanesia’s App Gallery.

A number of developers have been asking about Urbanesia’s API since the service was launched in 2010 but it wasn’t until now that it was able to make it accessible to interested parties. Urbanesia’s database is full of location data and business listings for the greater Jakarta area as well as Bali but it’s not yet nationwide for the moment.

Koprol tetap akan ditutup layanannya oleh Yahoo bulan Agustus ini setelah timnya dibubarkan tetapi para founder dari layanan berbasis lokasi ini telah kembali beraksi dan meluncurkan dua perusahaan terpisah. Ice House adalah perusahaan perangkat lunak yang dipimpin oleh Fajar Budiprasetyo dan Daniel Armanto sedangkan Barito Labs dijalankan oleh Satya Witoelar bersama dengan Daniel dan Fajar.

Sebagai sebuah perusahaan pengembangan perangkat lunak dan aplikasi, Ice House akan memusatkan perhatian pada pembuatan dan pengembangan applikasi mobile dan web yang mutakhir untuk para startup dan perusahaan di Sillicon Valley.

Ice House disokong oleh Pacific Technology Partners, sebuah perusahaan invesatasi swasta yang berbasis di Palo Alto. Saat ini Ice House sudah mulai mengembangkan beberapa aplikasi untuk klien di luar negeri.
