Kemkominfo Bersikeras Tetap Meminta Data Center di Indonesia Bagi Para Penyelenggara Sistem Elektronik

Kantor berita Antara melaporkan bahwa Kementrian Komunikasi dan Informatika (Kemkominfo) menyatakan tetap bersikeras akan meminta penyelenggara sistem elektronik menempatkan lokasi pusat datanya (data center) di Indonesia. Hal ini merujuk kepada Peraturan Pemerintah No. 82 tahun 2012 tentang Penyelenggaraan Sistem dan Transaksi Elektronik.

Has Google Acquired Indonesia’s IDC? [Update: No]

Ronald Ishak, founder of Domikado, just tweeted that Google has acquired IDC, Indonesia’s largest and most spread out data center company. He says that he is fairly confident about it. If it’s true, it will have wide ranging ramifications across the entire industry in Indonesia, not to mention Google saving itself the trouble of having to set up its own data center to comply with the information and electronic transaction law which was passed in 2008.

Kebakaran di Gedung IDC 3D, Beberapa Situs Lokal Seperti Detik, Okezone, dan Situs Lain Tidak Bisa Diakses

Pada pukul 8.15 hari minggu malam, co-founder dan chairman dari Internet Data Center Indonesia, Johar Alam Rangkuti, mengumumkan via Twitter bahwa listrik di IDC 3D terpaksa dipadamkan setelah salah satu UPS yang ada di sana terbakar. IDC 3D sendiri merupakan salah satu data center utama di Indonesia, berlokasi di Jakarta Selatan. Laporan selanjutnya via Twitter menyebutkan bahwa kebakaran di IDC 3D saat ini telah berhasil diatasi oleh beberapa mobil pemadam kebakaran yang dikirimkan ke lokasi. Pemutusan darurat dari semua server dan koneksi terpaksa dilakukan untuk memastikan tidak ada kerusakan lanjutan dari asap kebakaran.

Fire at IDC 3D Takes Down Detik, Okezone, and Several Other Indonesian Websites

At quarter past eight on Sunday night, co-founder and chairman of Internet Data Center Indonesia, Johar Alam Rangkuti, tweeted that IDC 3D, which is one of the country’s primary data centers, located in South Jakarta, had to be shut down due to a “UPS blowout”. Further reports from Twitter say that the fire at IDC 3D right now is already under control after a number of fire trucks were dispatched to the site. An emergency shutdown of all servers and connections had to be initiated immediately to ensure no further damage caused by the smoke.

Data Center Dilemmas for Tech Companies in Indonesia

The question of whether it’s necessary for technology companies operating in Indonesia to create a data center in Indonesia has resurfaced.

The Ministry of Communications and Informatics has reminded that once the draft for the Government Regulation on Operation of Electronic System and Transaction has been enacted every electronic service provider in Indonesia will have to run a data center in Indonesia.

This was disclosed by Director of e-Business Directorate General of Telematics Application of Ministry of Communications and Information, Azhar Hasyim. In his written speech at the “Cloud Goes Mobile” in Jakarta last Wednesday, reported by Detik, Hasyim said that the policy regarding the regulation of data center is contained in the Draft of Government Regulation on Operation of Electronic System and Transaction Chapter II, Article 17, paragraph 2.

Hasyim considers the issue of data center placement as one of the most important issues in the implementation of cloud computing services. According to Hasyim, the data center is an important asset in the operation of public service and contains risks. Therefore, the government found it necessary to implement this policy in order to protect strategic national data and ensure data sovereignty.
