LivingSocial Going Outside of Daily Deals, Helping Merchant in Developing Business

LivingSocial is one of big daily deals services in the world. Basing in Washington DC, LivingSocial owns many networks, including Indonesia when acquired Grup Ensogo under DealKeren. Although the main focus of its business is daily deals, doesn’t mean that LivingSocial has a blind eye for other business chance in other line.

When helping a merchant to prepare its daily deals solution, LivingSocial saw that many merchanct which use the difficult point-of-sales system to track buying activity and payment process by the customer. Here, LivingSocial saw a new chance to break the status quo.

As reported by Washington Post, LivingSocial will broaden its business line to help merchants, especially the SMEs in relation to digital marketing, customer loyalty and point-of-sales operation. At the end of last year, LivingSocial formed the Merchant Solution Division which led by former PayPal’s executive, Dickson Chu. According to Chu, they are currently working on some products and will launch it in the next weeks with chosen merchant.

Restaurant Discount Site Lapar Stops Selling Coupons, Turns Into a Messy Lifestyle Portal

An email newsletter came in to our inbox last night from Lapar.com which announced the close of business and the change in direction of the site. Lapar had been a popular restaurant discount coupon site offering deals to food lovers in Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya.

When it launched in December 2010, Lapar jumped into the burgeoning daily deals market, competing with the likes of disdus (now Groupon) and dealkeren (now livingsocial) but focusing only on discounts for food items. Business was brisk and it earned a vote of confidence from our own Rama Mamuaya for differentiating itself and focusing on just one category rather than selling discount coupons for everything under the sky. We wrote about Lapar a few times throughout 2011.

Gilkor: Discounts Information In Your Hand

Amidst of tight competitions of “daily deals” program like now, we all know that the main source of discounts for customers is credit card offers. AdaDiskon is a comprehensive service to inform it via website, but unfortunately they don’t have mobile application even though you can access it via mobile web. Sometimes ago, we had reviewed mobile application that provides this information, Jagoan. Jagoan had won the BlackBerry Developer Contest in 2009 but it was closed at the beginning of this year.

Gilkor now comes to assist you by finding discounts through various credit card providers. Web version of Gilkor has been available since the beginning of the year, but recently they have launched BlackBerry and Android application. Both platforms need a very moderate mobile device because the application is based on text and images only.

MurahRek.com: Surabaya’s own daily deals

The daily deals competition scene in Indonesia is getting pretty exciting. After two of the largest Indonesian deals sites were acquired by the two largest sites in the US, Disdus by Groupon and DealKeren by LivingSocial, several local deals sites from different cities are popping up with their own characteristics. An example from Yogyakarta is MbakDiskon which was covered in DailySocial some time ago.

Now there’s a local daily deals site from Surabaya called MurahRek.com. The name already carries the charm of its city of origin. MurahRek.com isn’t that different from other deals sites and the offerings are even similar, (food, spa, restaurants, car wash, travel, etc.) and the discounts are quite attractive, ranging from 50% to 90%.

OgahRugi.com With a New Look and Strategy

About a week ago OgahRugi.com changed their layout, which was quite a crucial change because their layout and feature is now totally different. I myself at first didn’t recognize the change until after I looked for writing material concerning daily deals and opened the OgahRugi.com site, their layout has already changed thoroughly.

Checking at their Facebook Page, the change was announced at May 23rd 2011, and if before the change there was some facilities provided by OgahRugi such as discount voucher, online store and discount info. Now with their new look, OgahRugi only provides discount vouchers which are offered once in two days.

Their typical red color and their logo were all changed, and now their look is much more minimalist, without the dominant color and the two column layout which was quite distinguishable from other similar services, eventhough the upper design element of the site reminds me of Gowalla service’s and the background image reminds me of AkuPlusKamu.

Setelah kabar ‘panas’ atas masuknya Groupon ke Indonesia dengan mengakuisisi Disdus, kini kembali hadir situs group buying lain yang ingin ambil bagian dari kue layanan group buying. Bertempat di klub Dragonfly di Jakarta, Maiplay resmi meluncurkan layanan mereka di Indonesia.

Hawaiian Group-buying Site Launches in Indonesia as Maiplay

Hot on the heels of Groupon entering Indonesia through its acquisition of Disdus, in comes another collective buying site looking to grab a share of the pie. Maiplay officially launched its Indonesian service today at the posh Dragonfly club in Jakarta.

Maiplay has been operating since 2009 in the United States as PlayHawaii, offering deals across hundreds of merchants in various categories including restaurant/bar, spa/salon, sports, activities, shipping, entertainment, another services. In Asia, the company is backed by ten private investors (rest of line removed). It operates in Singapore and Indonesia, with Jakarta and Bali as the inaugural Indonesian cities.

MbakDiskon.com, Daily Deals Service from Jogja

Several days ago I went to Jogjakarta (Central Java- Indonesia), and no I didn’t bring anything from there like bakpia or gudeg as some people expected, but I did bring ‘something else’ related to food and lifestyle offers.

I’d like to introduce you to a young lady (Mbak, in Javanese) from Jogja, giving you daily deals offers or discount coupon from various merchant in Jogja, Mbakdiskon.com.

The service is similar with other daily deals, discount offer by purchasing coupons from their website using available payment method like BCA / Mandiri transfer, T-Cash and soon PayPal, customer will get coupon code that can be exchanged one day prior to deal’s availability. Coupons can only be exchanged after they reach certain quota, which shows group purchase system used by MbakDiskon.

Hemat.com has officially launched their service. Hemat.com offers discount from various merchant, when this article was written, there are at least two discount promo on their website, related to food and body spa service.

Just like other daily deals service, Hemat.com offers discount from various merchants, and users can get information on the offers through website, Facebook, Twitter or email. Users can buy and print the coupon whenever they want to use it. There’s a quota that needs to be fulfilled before the discount offers can be activated, which means Hemat.com is focusing on group purchase.
