IDC: Android Dethrones BlackBerry as Top Smartphone Platform in Indonesia

The news is not fully surprising, but we still amaze it only takes a while for Android to be crowned as the top smartphone platform in the country. IDC reports that finally Android overtakes BlackBerry as the most popular smartphone operating system in Indonesia with market share of 52% in Q2 2012. BlackBerry remains the single favorite platform, while Android is offered by more than 10 vendors. In terms of overall mobile phone shipments, results from IDC’s Asia/Pacific Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker shows that the Indonesian mobile phone market grew 10% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) and 25% year-on-year (YoY).

Hari Minggu, sekitar pukul 8 malam muncul informasi di Twitter dari co-founder dan chairman IDC yang menyebutkan terjadi pemadaman listrik di gedung IDC. Kejadian ini mengakibatkan beberapa situs ternama di Indonesia tidak bisa diakses, pemadaman listrik dilakukan karena karena terjadi kebakaran UPS gedung IDC 3D.

ID Apps Academy, Incubation for Apps and Web Developers

IDC Indonesia, a data center service provider in Indonesia, holds an incubation program for app and website developer in Indonesia. The program named ID Apps Academy is open for public. ID Apps Academy participant will not only receive investment to develop their app but also payroll and bonus for certain periods if the app get the appreciation from the community.

ID Apps Academy is a 2 year incubation program. In the beginning of the period, incubation participant will get a facility in the form of infrastructure as free server. Then ID Apps Academy will continue to rate every incubation participant. Participants whose apps/websites get a lot of appreciation from the community will get the chance to free workshop, working space with internet access, monthly payment, bonus every certain period to promotion to investor.

Interestingly, the rating process is not decided by the judges but by community. The rank for incubation program’s participant will be based on number of download, number of visit, number of active user, etc. The amount of the bonus will be determined on the number of investor interested to be the investor of this incubation program. Therefore, the incubation participant is required to be creative to be able to invite more investors to join.

IDC: Android Reaches Highest Growth for Smartphone in Indonesia Q4 2011

Currently, BlackBerry might still leading in Indonesia and has became the most desirable smartphone but seeing the latest trend, Research in Motion as BlackBerry creator must be careful with Android. IDC (International Data Corporation) issued a fourth quarter 2011 (Q4 2011) report stating that Android has obtained the title as smartphone platform with the highest growth in Indonesia.

As reported by The Jakarta Globe, IDC noted that the rate of delivery of Android mobile phone maker (manufacturer) to a distributor in Indonesia reached an increase up to 28% that the previous quarter of up to 61% when compared with the same quarter last year. Unfortunately, the recorded number is for “delivery”, not “the real consumer sales” but IDC believes that number already represents the real growing needs of an Android phone.

IDC: Android Capai Pertumbuhan Smartphone Tertinggi di Indonesia Q4 2011

Saat ini mungkin BlackBerry masih berjaya di Indonesia dan menjadi smartphone paling diinginkan. Tapi melihat tren akhir-akhir ini, Research in Motion sebagai pembuat BlackBerry mesti berhati-hati dengan fenomena Android. IDC (International Data Corporation) mengeluarkan laporan kuartal keempat 2011 (Q4 2011) dan menyebutkan Android menyabet predikat platform smartphone dengan pertumbuhan tertinggi di Indonesia.

Seperti dilaporkan oleh The Jakarta Globe, IDC mencatat bahwa angka pengiriman ponsel Android dari pembuat (manufacturer) ke distributor di Indonesia mencapai kenaikan hingga 28% ketimbang kuartal sebelumnya dan naik hingga 61% bila dibandingkan dengan kuartal yang sama tahun lalu. Sayangnya, angka yang dicatat adalah “pengiriman”, bukan “hasil penjualan riil ke konsumen”, tapi IDC yakin angka tersebut sudah merepresentasikan pertumbuhan kebutuhan ponsel Android yang nyata.
