Path’s recent troubles with its latest version highlights an issue that many developers face when releasing a major update to their apps or services especially if it contains brand new features that redefines the app. When the company released Path 3.0 a couple of weeks ago it immediately ran into unexplained down times affecting both the primary stream updates as well as its new messaging network. This is reminiscent of when Apple botched the switch from MobileMe to iCloud back in 2011. Path’s members however, are sticking around.

Stickers may not be a big thing for its domestic market, not yet anyway, but in Asia it’s a multimillion dollar business. One social network that has many in the tech industry scratching their heads is Path. From the looks of it few outside of the company itself understand Path, the seemingly Facebook clone that’s native to mobile devices. There had been questions about Path’s existence. Practically nobody in the United States are on it, with roughly six million members and around half live outside of the US. With such low numbers relative to other big name American-based social networks, why is it so popular in Jakarta?
