RIM Harapkan Pengguna BlackBerry di Indonesia Capai 9.7 Juta Tahun 2015

Research in Motion (RIM) sampai sekarang telah mencapai kesuksesan dengan pemasaran BlackBerry di Indonesia. Seperti dikutip dari AFP yang dipublikasi oleh The Australians, hingga tahun 2011, ada sekitar 5 juta pelanggan layanan BlackBerry (BIS dan BES) yang tercatat di negeri ini. Mereka memproyeksikan bahwa jumlahnya akan menjadi hampir dua kali lipat di tahun 2015, menjadi 9.7 juta pelanggan. Secara kasar, proyeksi kenaikannya mencapai hampir 20% per tahun.

Jumlah itu tentunya masih belum menyamai jumlah pelanggan BlackBerry di kawasan Amerika Serikat yang mencapai 16.5 juta pelanggan (dan mengindikasikan tanda-tanda penurunan), tapi tetap menunjukkan pentingnya Indonesia bagi bisnis RIM. Managing Director RIM untuk Asia, Gregory Wade, menegaskan bahwa Indonesia adalah pasar yang sangat penting dan mereka meyakini bahwa tidak ada yang mencintai Indonesia lebih besar ketimbang RIM.

Indosat and RIM Enable Operator Billing for App World

Research in Motion and Indosat announced a collaboration that allows Indosat subscribers to purchase applications, themes, and games on the BlackBerry App World and pay for them through operator billing.

Indosat subscribers who do not own a credit card or Paypal account will now be able to purchase apps directly and payment will be rendered against their phone credits or monthly bills. This option works through the use of BlackBerry ID for user identification and a password is required for every purchase to minimize the possibility of fraud.

Indosat Dukung Pembelian di BlackBerry App World Melalui Billing Operator

Research in Motion dan Indosat mengumumkan kerjasama yang memudahkan pelanggan BlackBerry Indosat untuk membeli aplikasi, permainan ataupun themes di BlackBerry World melalui opsi billing operator. Dengan demikian, pengguna Indosat yang tidak memiliki kartu kredit ataupun akun PayPal dapat melakukan pembelian yang ditagihkan langsung ke pulsa ataupun billing bulanan. Opsi ini nantinya akan diatur melalui BlackBerry ID untuk identifikasi pengguna — dan mengharuskan memasukkan kata sandi (password) setiap kali melakukan transaksi untuk menghindari terjadinya kejahatan.

Opsi ini merupakan yang pertama kali diterapkan oleh operator partner BlackBerry di Indonesia. Layanan yang serupa juga sudah diterapkan oleh Nokia dengan Telkomsel untuk mendorong kemudahan pengguna membeli di Ovi Store. Apple dengan App Store masih memonopoli pembelian aplikasi dan permainan untuk platform iOS, sedangkan Android dan Windows Phone masih belum membuka layanan aplikasi berbayarnya di Indonesia.

BlackBerry DevCon Asia Resmi Dipindahkan ke Singapura

Research In Motion secara resmi telah merilis rincian dari rencana pemindahan lokasi BlackBerry DevCon Asia yang sebelumnya direncanakan untuk digelar di Bangkok pada bulan Desember.

Seperti yang dituliskan sebelumnya, konferensi kini akan berlangsung di Singapura dengan tanggal yang sama yaitu 7 – 8 Desember 2011. Lokasi baru untuk penyelenggarakaan adalah di Suntec International Convention dan Exhibition Centre. Calon peserta yang tidak akan dapat menghadiri acara di tempat yang baru akan memiliki kesempatan untuk me-refund tiket mereka dalam waktu 48 jam. Kemungkinan kompensasi untuk biaya perjalanan akan ditujukan secara pribadi kepada masing-masing peserta.

BlackBerry Devcon Asia Officially Moved to Singapore

Research In Motion has officially released a detailed breakdown of the relocation plans for December’s BlackBerry Devcon that was scheduled to take place in Bangkok.

As we previously reported, the conference will now take place in Singapore while maintaining the 7-8 December dates. The new location will be at Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Delegates who will not be able to attend at the new venue will have their tickets refunded within 48 hours of cancelation. Possibility of compensation for travel fees will be addressed privately to each individual delegate.

Lokasi BlackBerry DevCon Asia Resmi Dipindahkan

Minggu lalu kami mengabarkan bahwa BlackBerry DevCon Asia yang kedua tahun ini, yang dijadwalkan berlangsung pada 7 – 8 Desember di Bangkok mungkin akan dipindahkan ke Singapura, sehubungan dengan banjir parah yang mempengaruhi berbagai daerah di Thailand.

Hari ini kami menerima konfirmasi relokasi pelaksanaan BlackBerry DevCon Asia, tapi RIM belum mengumumkan kota atau tanggal baru. Sayangnya, bagi mereka yang telah membeli tiket dan mengatur rencana perjalanan, pihak RIM belum mengumumkan apa pun untuk mengatasi masalah ini. RIM belum membuat keputusan mengenai apakah akan mengganti biaya yang telah dikeluarkan oleh para peserta karena mereka telah mempersiapkan (membeli tiket, dll) untuk mengikuti BB DevCon Asia yang rencananya akan digelar di Thailand tersebut.

BlackBerry Devcon Asia Relocated

Last week we reported that the second BlackBerry Devcon Asia this year which was scheduled to take place on December 7-8 in Bangkok may have to be relocated, perhaps to Singapore, due to severe flooding affecting significant parts of Thailand.

Today we received confirmation of the relocation but RIM has yet to announce the new city or dates. Unfortunately for those who have made travel arrangements, RIM has not announced anything to address these concerns. The company has yet to make a decision on whether it will reimburse such expenses by conference attendees.

What is surprising though, is that while the flooding had occurred since the middle of the year and is still affecting parts of the city and the country, RIM had not seem to consider moving or rescheduling the event as well as the consequences of maintaining its course until it was far too late.

Developers who have purchased flight tickets and accommodation are now having to cancel those arrangement and perhaps even reconsider attending the event due to the impending financial burden. It seems only fair for these enthusiastic band of loyal RIM supporters to have their losses covered by RIM.

Secara tidak langsung, ini merupakan berita besar bagi pasar Indonesia. Blackberry baru-baru ini mengumumkan kerjasamanya dengan Mastercard, dimana perangkat Blackberry 9900 dan 9360 dijadikan 2 perangkat NFC pertama yang mendukung pembayaran via Mastercard PayPass. France Telecom dan Orange juga menjadi 2 carrier pertama yang mengimplementasikan kerjasama ini.

Hal ini berarti semua bank yang mendukung teknologi Mastercard Paypass dapat dihubungkan langsung dengan account yang terintegrasi di SIM card dalam smartphone tersebut, memudahkan pengguna untuk melakukan pembayaran menggunakan Mastercard PayPass.

NFC-enabled Blackberry Devices Now Supports MasterCard PayPass

This is a big news for Indonesia, although indirectly. Blackberry recently announces their partnership with MasterCard, making Blackberry 9900 and 9360 as the first NFC-enabled devices certified to work with MasterCard PayPass. France Telecom and Orange are two of the first carrier to support this partnership between RIM – Mastercard.

This means that any bank that supports MasterCard PayPass technology can now deploy PayPass accounts directly to the SIM card on smart phones, enabling owners to make contactless mobile purchases wherever PayPass is accepted.

Andrew Bocking, RIM’s VP for Handheld Software Product Management said “NFC technology makes smartphones smarter and Mastercard’s certification is a significant boost in changing the way we user mobile devices to pay. We are proactively working together with operator partners, banks, retailers and other industry players and we’re very happy to push the limit on how NFC can deliver new mobile experience for Blackberry users around the globe”.

Does Application Become RIM’s Investment Target in Indonesia?

One of the articles on Bisnis.com (in Indonesian) about RIM investment in Indonesia is caught my interest. We might know the “war” between Indonesian government and RIM becomes like soap opera with long episodes.

Many things keep our attention on it. One of them is the RIM investment. The article on Bisnis.com stated that RIM will propose the investment concept in November. This statement comes from Hatta Rajasa – Coordinating Minister for Economy. The investment (according to Bisnis.com) is about the software, not the hardware, and it might be about the development of research centre and application institute for global market. It will be done with the cooperation with technology institute in Indonesia (Bandung and Bali).
