Friendster now officially rebrand the social networking site as an online gaming platform, walking away from the stiff competition of social networking sites. They didn’t stand a chance, really.

The pre-historic social network Friendster has been totally forgotten for the past years, casted by the shadow of Facebook, Twitter and other social networks existed. After they experienced some serious trouble since 2006, Friendster still attempted several effort to survive but none of those strategies could make Friendster cool again.

Mindtalk Live, Siap Untuk Masuki Celah Social Network

Beberapa hari ini Twitter diramaikan dengan sebuah website baru bernama mindtalk yang sudah live dari beberapa hari lalu. Pada prinsipnya, mindtalk ini adalah sebuah social networking jenis baru. Orang seperti saya tentu sudah bosan dengan jejaring sosial yang diluncurkan di Indonesia karena rata-rata tidak memiliki diferensiasi dibandingkan dengan Facebook atau Twitter. Namun sepertinya Mindtalk ini agak berbeda.

Ketika anda pertama kali mendaftar di mindtalk, akan langsung terasa perbedaan mindtalk dengan jejaring sosial lainnya. Meskipun masih dalam tahap yang masih awal (beta) namun sepertinya konsep Mindtalk akan cukup membingungkan bagi banyak pengguna awam ketika baru mulai. Dari sisi user interface-pun sepertinya masih banyak yang akan dibenahi dari mindtalk ini, banyak bagian yang kurang user friendly.

Mindtalk Goes Live, Ready to Exploit The Gap of Social Networking Sites

A new website called mindtalk, went live a few days ago, and is being talked about a lot lately in Twitter. Basically mindtalk as a new kind of social networking site. People like me are getting tired of social networks launched in Indonesia, because they offer nothing different than Facebook or Twitter. But looks like MindTalk might be different.

The moment you register on mindtalk, you will immediately see the difference. Despite being still in beta version, it looks like Mindtalk’s concept will be quite confusing for new users. User interface wise, they still need to work on many things because on some parts it’s still not user friendly yet.

By now everyone has heard about LinkedIn’s spectacular IPO last week, quite possibly the most significant public offering by a Web business since Google. Other Internet companies such as Groupon and Facebook are almost certain to follow suit in even grander fashion, but what makes the love for LinkedIn so striking is what it reveals about the future of working on the Web.

LinkedIn IPO, Valuasi Mencapai US$4,5 Miliar

Hari ini akan menandai suatu milestone bagi perusahaan online di Amerika Serikat. LinkedIn, situs jejaring sosial untuk kaum profesional, akan mencatatkan dirinya dalam Bursa Saham New York (NYSE) dengan kode LNKD. Akan ada 7.84 juta lembar saham yang ditawarkan dengan harga US$45 (hampir IDR385 ribu) per lembarnya. Valuasi LinkedIn akan mencapai US$4.5 miliar.

LinkedIn akan menjadi perusahaan jejaring sosial pertama dari Amerika Serikat yang mencatatkan dirinya di NYSE. Sebelumnya, Renren dari Cina adalah perusahaan jejaring sosial pertama yang terdaftar di NYSE pada awal Mei lalu.

Analis, seperti Trent Tillman yang menulis untuk Seeking Alpha, nampaknya masih belum merekomendasi apapun tentang sama LinkedIn dan memilih untuk wait-and-see hingga 72 jam, menunggu reaksi pasar. Keputusan LinkedIn untuk masuk ke bursa saham bisa jadi merupakan keputusan berani, mengingat bisnis jejaring sosial sendiri bukanlah suatu bisnis yang mudah untuk dikira-kira oleh para pelaku pasar, terutama soal model bisnis dan kemungkinan masa depannya (sustainability). Jejaring sosial meskipun seksi di mata angel investor dan venture capital, belum tentu memiliki image yang sama di mata investor umum yang cenderung lebih konservatif.

New Look and Logo of BukuQ.com

The service for books lover, BukuQ, changed their appearance and logo. DailySocial wrote about this service last December, with the appearance that also have changed since this service was first developed, due to changes in technology used by BukuQ.

Display and services in the December article and the recent one are still in private beta stage, but this time the BukuQ display shows the better update, at least has the design elements that related to the world of books, giving the feel of a sufficient support by the facilities they provide.

Koprol gets friendly with Flickr and adds new features

Earlier today Yahoo! announced a slew of new features in Koprol that among other things solidifies the social network’s position not only as a Yahoo! property but also in the checkin services scene. Yahoo!’s Indonesian property has been relatively busy at the start of the year having introduced Koprol for Business several weeks ago and currently working on native apps for Android, Bada, and iOS.

Two of the most awaited features introduced today are the ability to post photos to Flickr and to create and add widgets to a blog. Koprol also recently has improved the way venue or location submissions are being handled and added notifications for nearby friends.

DesaVirtual Changed Layout (again) and Turned Into Dvers.com

DailySocial wrote of desaVirtual or Desavirtual once, is a social network combining friendship element with e-commerce in one place and integrated. After awhile, Virtual village or Desavirtual change their appearance for the third time, this time with quite a significant change because they also change their logo and name into Dvers.com.

Changing facility in a service can be one of strategies to develop website, although I can’t say exactly when one product should change and when to stay developed as is, because it depends on many factors, including the service itself and of course competition level.

Suaramu.com: Record, Play and Share (Updated)

Networking in virtual world becomes an ordinary activity nowadays. People are infatuated with social networking sites, local and international. Sharing photos, text, status, and links becomes normal bordering to routine activities.

However, one website creates its own market by providing social network facility, only this one with voice, Suaramu.com. The service that passed second stage of INAICTA 2010 provides service that enables users to record their voice, play it, and then share it with their friends. Like other social networks, status (in form of voice) can be commented or listened to. ‘Suara’ means ‘voice’ in Indonesian language.

At the moment Suaramu.com is still in alpha version and needs invitation to try their facilities. I’ve my invitation so I was able to try some of the facilities.
