Google Sekarang Men-scan Setiap Aplikasi di Android Market untuk Mencegah Malware

Anda yang mungkin selama ini kecewa dengan proses seleksi pendaftaran aplikasi Android di Android Market yang kurang menitikberatkan di area Quality Control mulai bisa bernafas lega. Meskipun mereka masih tidak menerapkan seleksi ketat di awal seperti yang dilakukan oleh Apple, sekarang setiap aplikasi Android akan di-scan oleh layanan (yang berjalan di belakang layar) yang disebut sebagai “Bouncer”. Tujuannya untuk meminimalisir disusupinya aplikasi dengan malware, spyware, Trojan, dan sejenisnya. Hal tersebut diinformasikan oleh Hiroshi Lockheimer, VP Engineering untuk Android, kepada CNET.

Bouncer sendiri disebutkan telah diuji coba cukup lama untuk melihat efektivitasnya. Seperti yang disampaikan oleh Lockheimer, di antara paruh pertama dan paruh kedua 2011 diperoleh penurunan sebesar 40% dalam jumlah unduhan untuk aplikasi-aplikasi yang diduga berbahaya. Lockheimer sendiri tidak mau menyebutkan berapa jumlah aplikasi berbahaya yang telah diblok atau dihapus dari Android Market sebagai hasil dari proses scanning.

MetroTV Launched Mobile Application for Android Platform

Previously, Metro TV officially announced (via Twitter) that they have released a mobile application for Android platform and it is available for free on Android Market. And of course, the purpose of MetroTV mobile application launching is to allow mobile users to enjoy information provided by MetroTV.

MetroTV Android application is developed by Digital Metro Buana (PT Graha Digital First) – a company engaged in the television segment. This time we will try to review this application.

In terms of UI and UX, it can be understood by the users. Before running this application, make sure your Android handset connected to the Internet on order to update content directly from Metrotvnews.com.

In the ‘Menu’ feature, there are several news categories available. The three main features are ‘Video’ (to see the program that have been broadcasted on Metro TV), ‘News’ (news category comes from Metrotvnews.com content) and the last feature is ‘Live’ (for MetroTV live streaming).

When I attempted to try live streaming service, unfortunately this facility can’t be used in some Android handsets. Of course this feature can be modified to be easier for users for enjoying MetroTV program without sitting in front of the television (can be accessed via mobile). 😉

Location-Based Service Yotomo, Released Version 2.0

Years have changed; surely it should be a reform of existing services to be better. Location-based service, Yotomo, aligned with the New Year released the latest version 2.0 for BlackBerry and Android platforms. Yotomo uses Foursquare’s location data as the basis to bolster its own service. They stated that in addition to improving their design, there would be also a number of new features introduced.

The focus on version 2.0 update is a game called the “Title”. This game takes after the mayorship model that was introduced by Foursquare. The difference is, there are a variety of titles up for grabs for a venue, depending on the categories. unlike Foursquare, there isn’t just one title to win but there are three levels. For example, in the Restaurant venue category, Yotomo users will compete for Yotomo Chef, Cook and Waiter title. Another example is the Office category in which the titles to grab are CEO, Manager, and Intern. For each venue in each category, the highest title can only be had by one user – like a Major in Foursquare.

Layanan Berbasis Lokasi Yotomo Rilis Versi 2.0

Berganti tahun tentunya berarti pembaruan terhadap layanan yang sudah ada menuju ke arah yang lebih baik. Layanan berbasis lokasi, Yotomo, seiring pergantian tahun merilis versi terbaru 2.0 untuk platform BlackBerry dan Android. Yotomo yang menggunakan data Foursquare sebagai basis layanannya menyebutkan selain perbaikan di area desain, terdapat pula sejumlah fitur baru yang diperkenalkan.

Fokus pembaruan untuk versi 2.0 ini adalah permainan yang disebut oleh “Title”. Permainan ini mengambil basis Mayorship yang sudah diperkenalkan oleh Foursquare. Bedanya, ada bermacam-macam gelar yang bisa diperebutkan untuk suatu venue bergantung kategorinya. Gelar untuk suatu venue pun tidak cuma satu titel, tetapi 3 level. Contohnya adalah untuk venue kategori Restaurant, pengguna Yotomo akan memperebutkan titel Chef, Cook, dan Waiter. Contoh lain adalah kategori Office, di mana ada gelar CEO, Manager, dan Intern yang diperebutkan. Untuk setiap venue di masing-masing kategori, level tertinggi hanya bisa dimiliki oleh satu pengguna — seperti layaknya Mayor di Foursquare.

PT INTI to Produce Marvell-Powered Android Smartphones

Despite the large number of generic Chinese phones flooding the Indonesian market, PT Industri Telekomunikasi Indonesia (INTI), a state-owned enterprise, will be forging ahead with plans to release its own brand of Android smartphones. INTI has actually released a number of Android phones in the past under the IMO brand which stands for Inti Mobile (Mobile Core).

Currently IMO’s line of phones primarily consist of low-end models that look similar to other more well known brands. INTI now intends to produce mid-range to high end Android phones running Gingerbread powered by processors made by Marvell Technology Group.

Managing Director of INTI, Mr. Irfan Setiaputra, said to VIVAnews, that the development of the smartphone is in the finalization stage. INTI also intends to work with Marvell to have it as the supplier of the 800 MHz processors which will be the core of INTI’s smartphone. Marvell Technology as we know was founded by Sutardja family. The company plans to sell the phones starting from the second half of the year.

PT INTI Siap Produksi Smartphone Android dengan Prosesor Marvell

Membanjirnya ponsel-ponsel generik buatan Cina ternyata tidak menyurutkan langkah perusahaan BUMN di bidang Telekomunikasi, PT Industri Telekomunikasi Indonesia (INTI) untuk membuat telepon seluler sendiri. Sebelumnya INTI telah membuat sejumlah ponsel Android dengan merk IMO yang merupakan singkatan dari Inti Mobile. Sementara jajaran ponsel IMO masih didominasi ponsel kloning yang mirip dengan merk terkenal. Tak tanggung-tanggung, INTI ingin membuat ponsel mid-t0-high end yang diperkuat oleh prosesor buatan Marvell dan Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

Dirut INTI, Irfan Setiaputra, seperti dikutip dari Vivanews mengatakan bahwa smartphone yang dihasilkan sedang dalam tahap finalisasi. Marvell Technology nampaknya bakal dipercaya untuk memproduksi prosesor 800 MHz sebagai otak smartphone ini. Marvell Technology seperti kita ketahui didirikan oleh keluarga Sutardja. Rencananya produk ini akan dijual untuk umum di semester kedua 2012.

Mungkinkah Samsung Menjadi Ancaman bagi Google?

Minggu ini, artikel di Monday Note yang ditulis oleh Jean Louis Gassée memicu pemikiran yang menarik serta kemungkinan tentang Samsung yang semakin serius mengambil peran di ‘dunia’ Android dan mungkin menggunakannya sebagai perang terhadap Google. Kira-kira untuk apa Samsung melakukan itu?

Saat ini, Samsung mungkin tidak akan melakukan apapun untuk membahayakan hubungannya dengan Google, lagi pula, Samsung menjual banyak sekali ponsel Android di seluruh dunia dan karenanya telah menjadi produsen smartphone nomor satu di dunia. Samsung berhutang banyak pada Google.

Di sisi lain, justru posisi yang sekarang ini memungkinkan Samsung untuk memberikan tekanan pada Google. Samsung cukup besar dibandingkan pesaing terdekat mereka dan memiliki pengaruh yang cukup untuk menghasilkan dua dari tiga ponsel seri Nexus – tahta tertinggi untuk ponsel Android- menjadi milik mereka.

HTC dan Motorola adalah produsen terbesar berikutnya, namun penjualan mereka sama sekali tidak mendekati Samsung dan pada kenyataannya telah dikanibalisasi oleh pesaing asal Korea ini. Kedua perusahaan tersebut sedang menderita.

Transcorp Launched Television Streaming Application MyTrans

After acquiring Detik, a subsidiary of CT Group (formerly named Para Group) Trans Corp goes straight into the digital world by launching MyTrans application. MyTrans seems to be Trans Corp’s experiment in order to try digital content, especially for their two television channels: Trans7 and Trans TV.

Honestly this application only contains streaming video from two TV channels. The video features still use the Adobe Flash plugin and tend to be very basic. Apart of their streaming feature, they also provide a TV programs schedule. However I still haven’t managed to get it.

For me, this application seems in the early stage and it’s still having poor- features to be released to public. Some features such as video enhancer, full-screen, simple social sharing and other features should be able to add the convenience to the users. However, for now I’ll be waiting for the latest release and some additional features from Agrakom besides streaming and schedule. At least for now, it’s okay for me to watch TV while stuck in traffic jam. 😉

Could Samsung Pose a Threat to Google?

This week’s Monday Note by Jean Louis Gassée sparked an interesting thought and possibility that Samsung is gaining a serious upper hand in the Android world and could use it as leverage against Google. Now why would Samsung do that?

At this point, Samsung probably wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize the relationship with Google, after all, it’s selling tons of Android phones across the world and has become the number one smartphone maker on the planet because of it. Samsung owes a lot of that to Google.

On the other hand, it’s exactly this position that may allow Samsung to put pressure on Google. Samsung is large enough to dwarf its closest competitors and enough of an influence to pull off two of the three Nexus phones, the pinnacle and showcase of Android.

HTC and Motorola are the next largest Android manufacturers yet their sales are nowhere near Samsung’s and in fact have been cannibalized by its Korean competitor. The two companies are suffering.
