ScanBuku, Store Your Bookshelf in a Hard Drive

If you are a book collector and have moved from one house/boarding house to another, you must have felt the burden of moving your book collection to your new home. Books, due to the weight and number, will weigh you, especially if you often move from one location of residence to another.

Now, there’s a service called ScanBuku, which offers to convert your book collection into digital form. By sending your books to them, ScanBuku will scan your book and give you a link to download your e-book in PDF format. Andri, owner of ScanBuku, as excerpted from Kompas Tekno, describes that this service is created because of the difficulty that the book owner must face regarding reading and taking care of their books.

Papataka.com Sell Not Only E-book Now

I has written several times about the development of Papataka.com, one of the service provider for buying e-book. Papataka also has dedicated e-reader device that enables users to access Papataka directly from the device.

Now, there is a new development from Papataka.com, they do not only sell e-book but also non digital stuffs such as organic food, coffee, toys, clothes, children clothing, and many other stuffs. Actually I already read the news about it last week from their advertisement on the Indonesian edition of Bloomberg Businessweek magazine where they advertise about their new services. On the latest edition of the magazine, Papataka.com advertise many other things that can be bought besides e-books.

Papataka.com Kini Tidak Hanya Menjual E-book

Saya beberapa kali menuliskan tentang perkembangan dari Papataka.com, salah satu penyedia layanan untuk membeli e-book. Papataka juga memiliki dedicated e-reader yang memungkinkan pengguna untuk mengakses Papataka langsung dari perangkat tersebut.

Kini ada perkembangan terbaru dari Papataka.com, mereka kini tidak hanya menjual e-book saja namun juga barang fisik atau non digital, seperti makanan organik, kopi, mainan, pakaian anak dan beberapa barang lain.

Sebenarnya berita tentang adanya layanan baru dari Papataka telah saya baca beberapa minggu lalu, dari iklan mereka di majalah Bloomberg Businessweek edisi Indonesia, dimana mereka mengiklankan layanan mereka di sana. Dan dari edisi terbaru majalah ini, baru terlihat adanya penawaran lain selain e-book yang kini bisa dibeli di Papataka.com.

Rakuten Acquires Digital Book Company Kobo

Rakuten Ichiba recently announce the acquisition of Kobo, a Canada-based ebook vendor, with a full cash 100% acquisition. This is the first time a Japanese-based marketplace company buy a content company. It’s been a while since Rakuten enables merchant to sell stuff using their platform, this time around Rakuten decided to sell their own things on their own platform. Kobo itself sells ebooks online and they also have an Android-based e-reader product called Kobo Vox which (somewhat) competing with Amazon Kindle.

Rakuten also has presence in Indonesia and I sincerely hope that Rakuten can bring Kobo to Indonesian market. Why am I so excited about this? So far it seems easy to buy Kobo’s digital products compared to other competitors especially for Indonesian market. Kobo also supports Paypal which makes it easier for Indonesian early adopter market to buys their products. Another thing that makes Kobo suitable for Indonesian market is their multiplatform support – Blackberry, iOS and Android – pushing their chances even further to expand in Indonesia.

Rakuten Akuisisi Kobo dan Peluangnya di Indonesia

Rakuten Ichiba mengumumkan pengakuisisian Kobo — penyedia layanan e-book dari Kanada — dan pengambilalihan kepemilikan 100% dengan pembayaran secara cash. Ini merupakan pertama kalinya situs marketplace asal Jepang membeli layanan konten. Setelah lama berkutat di penjualan berbagai macam barang, sekarang saatnya Rakuten menjual dagangannya sendiri. Kobo sendiri selain berjualan ebook secara online juga memiliki produk E-Reader, seperti halnya Amazon Kindle — dengan produk andalannya Kobo Vox yang berbasiskan Android.

Mengingat Rakuten Ichiba memiliki franchise di Indonesia, Rakuten Belanja Online (RBO), tentu saja saya berharap bahwa RBO bakal membantu Kobo memperluas pasarnya di Indonesia. Kenapa saya nampak excited dengan Kobo? Sejauh ini memang Kobo yang nampak dengan mudah dibeli produk-produknya di Indonesia, ketimbang Amazon. Apalagi Kobo juga melayani pembelian dengan PayPal. Dengan ketersediaan di berbagai platform — termasuk BlackBerry, iOS, dan Android — Kobo memiliki peluang memperoleh pasar yang lebih besar di Indonesia.

Evolitera Establishes Cooperation with Scoop

DailySocial readers must know the two names Scoop and Evolitera. Both of them have been discussed on DailySocial many times. Scoop is developed by Apps Foundry and recently released iPod and iPhone version after previously available for iPad version. Lately, Evolitera presents with new appearance (again), they changed the latest appearance since last July (web).

Some days ago, I tried Scoop application for iPod and see there is a book from Evolitera in the digital book collection or content offered by Scoop. From the information I got from email, Eduardus Christmas, Evolitera’s founder and CEO explained that the cooperation with Scoop has been started since August 2011.

Their collaboration is on the premium content from Evolitera now is available and can be bought on Scoop. When I browse Evolitera’s content on Scoop, the price is around $0.99 to $1.99. There are only 30 digital books from Evolitera available on Scoop. Eduardus explained that “we plan to have thousands books, but the selling will be gradual. We also pay attention to the book genre in every release”.

Evolitera Jalin Kerja Sama dengan Scoop

Pembaca DailySocial pasti sudah mengenal dua nama ini, Scoop dan Evolitera, keduanya sudah pernah dibahas di DailySocial beberapa kali. Scoop dikembangkan oleh Apps Foundry baru-baru ini merilis versi untuk iPod dan iPhone setelah sebelumnya tersedia untuk iPad. Sedangkan Evolitera kini hadir dengan tampilan baru (lagi), mereka mengubah tampilan terakhir ini sejak bulan Juli lalu (web).

Saya sendiri beberapa waktu lalu mencoba aplikasi Scoop untuk iPod dan melihat ada buku dari Evolitera di koleksi buku digital atau konten yang ditawarkan oleh Scoop. Dari keterangan yang saya terima lewat email, Eduardus Christmas, founder dan CEO dari Evolitera menjelaskan bahwa kerja sama dengan Scoop telah dimulai sejak Agustus 2011.

Kerja sama yang ada berupa penjualan premium content yang tersedia di Evolitera kini tersedia dan bisa dibeli di Scoop. Ketika menjelajah konten Evolitera yang ada di Scoop, harga yang ada sekitar $0.99 – $1.99. Untuk jumlah yang tersedia baru ada sekitar 30-an buku digital dari Evolitera yang tersedia di Scoop, Eduardus juga menjelaskan bahwa, “rencana akan ratusan, tapi memang penjualannya secara bertahap dan memperhatikan genre buku untuk setiap tahap release-nya.”

Papataka.com Kerjasama Dengan Penerbit Buku Lokal Tambahkan E-book Berbahasa Indonesia

Sejak kemunculan Papataka.com, salah satu pertanyaan yang saya ajukan adalah penambahan buku berbahasa Indonesia, karena pada awal kemunculannya koleksi buku yang terdapat di situs mereka didominasi oleh e-book berbahasa asing. Kini Papataka telah bekerjasama dengan penerbit lokal dan menyediakan e-book dengan bahasa Indonesia.

Setidaknya ada dua penerbit yang diajak kerjasama yaitu Komunitas Bambu serta Luxima Metro Media. Komunitas Bambu merupakan penerbit yang mencetak dan memasarkan naskah-naskah dengan tema sejarah, serta beberapa tema lain seperti budaya dan karya sastra. Sedangkan penerbit Luxima Metro Media merupakan penerbit buku Islami.

Selain beberapa e-book dari kedua penerbit ini sebagai tambahan koleksi e-book lokal atau kategori Indonesia di Papataka.com, terdapat juga beberapa naskah lain, seperti naskah cerpen Andre Hirata, serta e-book Saraswati karangan Kanti W. Janis yang buku versi cetaknya diterbitkan oleh penerbit Akoer.
