RIM Officially Opens API for Blackberry Messenger

Today RIM announces the availability of APIs for its BBM messaging platform for Java developers around the world that allows developers to build apps based on the BBM features. So far, many have said that the Blackberry Messenger is the only feature that kept Blackberry users from switch to other platforms, this move can certainly be seen as a form of suicidal act by RIM.

With this API, developers can take advantage of services such as LBS, multimedia, VoIP and video which are well integrated with BBM contacts for sharing real-time services. Given the number of Blackberry users in major cities in Indonesia, this can expose new potentials that were previously closed especially with high-virality nature of BBM.

RIM Resmi Buka API Untuk Blackberry Messenger

Hari ini RIM mengumumkan ketersediaan BBM social platform SDK 1.0 untuk BlackBerry Java di seluruh dunia yang memungkinkan para developers mengembangkan apps berdasarkan BBM social interaction. Selama ini banyak yang bilang bahwa Blackberry Messenger adalah satu-satunya fitur yang membuat para pengguna BB enggan beralih ke platform lain, langkah ini tentu bisa dilihat sebagai bentuk bantahan untuk asumsi ini.

Dengan API ini developer bisa memanfaatkan layanan-layanan seperti LBS, multimedia, VoIP dan video yang juga diintegrasikan dengan kontak BBM untuk sharing layanan real-time. Mengingat banyaknya pengguna Blackberry di kota-kota besar di Indonesia, tentu hal ini bisa membuka begitu banyak celah yang sebelumnya tertutup apalagi dengan tingkat viralitas BBM yang lumayan tinggi.

Event Report: BlackBerry Developer Day dan Kompetisi KIAD

Kemarin di ITB Bandung telah diselenggarakan BlackBerry Developer Day yang dijadikan ajang pertemuan para developer dengan perwakilan dari RIM yaitu Johan Kremer Head of Alliances for SEA, Research In Motion (Singapore) Pte Ltd dan Sarim Aziz – Senior Applications Development.

RIM memberikan presentasi tentang perkembangan BlackBerry di Asia Tenggara khususnya di Indonesia yang menurut data RIM merupakan peringkat pertama dalam hal kepemilikan telepon selular pada rentang usia 8-24 tahun yaitu sebesar 80%. RIM juga memberikan presentasi mengenai WebWorks Development for BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry Smartphones, Adobe AIR Development for the BlackBerry PlayBook, dan BlackBerry Development Platform Roadmap.

Event Report: BlackBerry Developer Day and KIAD Competition

Yesterday at ITB Bandung there was BlackBerry Developer Day, a meet up between developers and RIM representatives namely Johan Kremer Head of Alliances for SEA, Research In Motion (Singapore) Pte Ltd dan Sarim Aziz – Senior Applications Development.

RIM presented BlackBerry’s development in South East Asia especially in Indonesia which according to RIM’s date is the highest in mobile phone ownership on age 8-24 years old, spiking on 80%. RIM also gave presentation on WebWorks Development for BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry Smartphones, Adobe AIR Development for the BlackBerry PlayBook, and BlackBerry Development Platform Roadmap.

7langit, Elasitas and Tasterous were there as well as other Indonesian developers, although only 7langit and Elasitas gave their presentation regarding various things related to BlackBerry application development. They developed application for BlackBerry and PlayBook, and including some of many developers who joined the free PlayBook program by RIM.

BlackBerry Developer Day: Dukungan RIM Untuk Developer dan Pendekatan ke Kampus di Indonesia

BlackBerry Developer Day hari kemarin hadir di Kampus ITB, Bandung. Ini merupakan acara developer day pertama yang Research in Motion (RIM) jalankan di kampus di Indonesia. RIM memang beberapa kali mengadakan acara di Indonesia salah satunya tentu untuk menarik para developer dalam mengembangkan aplikasi di platform mereka.

Saya dan beberapa rekan media berkesempatan untuk berbincang santai dengan Johan Kremer Head of Alliances for SEA, Research In Motion (Singapore) Pte Ltd dan Sarim Aziz – Senior Applications Development.

Bagi saya ponsel pintar/tablet adalah tentang aplikasi, memang masih banyak fitur atau fungsi lain, tetapi tanpa aplikasi ponsel pintar/tablet tidak akan berguna secara maksimal, dan jika berbicara tentang aplikasi berarti akan membicarakan toko aplikasi dan pada akhirnya pembicaraan akan sampai pada para developer aplikasi dan bagi RIM, dengan kemunculan BlackBerry PlayBook, aplikasi menjadi semakin penting.

BlackBerry Developer Day: RIM’s Support for Developer and Approach to Universities in Indonesia

BlackBerry Developer Day was held yesterday in ITB, Bandung. It was the first developer day Research In Motion (RIM) held in university in Indonesia. RIM held several events previously in Indonesia to attract developers in developing application for their platform. I and several other friends had the opportunity to have light discussion with Johan Kremer, Head of Alliances for SEA, Research In Motion (Singapore) Pte Ltd and Sarim Aziz – Senior Application Development.

For me smartphone/tablet is all about application. There are more functions or features, but without application smartphone/tablet will not be maximized, and when talking about application that means we will talk about application store and eventually the talking will get to application developers and for RIM, with BlackBerry PlayBook on the market application is getting more and more important.

RIM’s approach by having events in universities is quite interesting. I’d like to remind you of the 2^ndBandung Ventures Night (BVN) held at ITB, they are also targeting entrepreneur side (like application developing studio) working together with popular platform like Android and RIM with its BlackBerry.

Elasitas Bawa Dua Permainan ke Ajang BlackBerry World 2011

Dalam ajang BlackBerry World 2011, 3-5 Mei, di Orlando lalu, sebuah perusahaan Indonesia mendapatkan kehormatan dari Research In Motion (RIM) sebagai penyelenggara acara ini untuk menampilkan dua karya terbarunya yang masih berkisar di area permainan. Elasitas Technologies menampilkan dua buah karya bangsa sendiri yang memberikan kebanggaan di arena internasional.

Yang pertama adalah Menoo! untuk BlackBerry yang sudah pernah kami cover sebelumnya, sementara yang kedua adalah Vroom yang dibuat di atas platform GameMachi khusus untuk BlackBerry PlayBook. Vroom dibuat dengan kerjasama dengan Agate Studio — di mana Agate sendiri sebenarnya sering bekerja sama dengan Nokia.

BlackBerry Playbook Officially Supports Android Application

A surprising announcement, but predicted, launched by Research in Motion (RIM). This popular smart phone maker announced the availability of its Playbook tablets by mid-April in the United States and Canada. Reportedly Playbook will enter Indonesian market at least on early May. What surprising is not the confirmation of its launch date, but the Playbook support on Android applications which is compatible with the Operating System version 2.3 (Gingerbread). Playbook also supports the development of applications using Native C/C++, HTML5, Adobe Flash, and Adobe AIR, as well as support for the gaming engine Airplay SDK and Unity 3.

The announcement appears to remove the arrogance of the BlackBerry which was standing strong against the threat of Android and the iPhone. Through his press release, Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO of RIM said that additional BlackBerry applications with Java and Android for BlackBerry Playbook via BlackBerry App World will provide more options for users and the flexibility of this platform. BlackBerry Playbook itself has a BlackBerry Tablet operating system based on QNX, which the author was acquired by RIM a year ago.

BlackBerry PlayBook Secara Resmi Dukung Aplikasi Android

Suatu pengumuman mengejutkan, tapi sudah diprediksi sebelumnya, dilansir oleh Research in Motion (RIM). Pembuat ponsel pintar populer ini mengumumkan ketersediaan tablet PlayBook-nya pertengahan April di Amerika Serikat dan Kanada. Kabarnya PlayBook akan masuk Indonesia setidaknya awal Mei. Yang mengejutkan bukan konfirmasi tanggal peluncurannya, melainkan dukungan PlayBook terhadap aplikasi Android yang kompatibel dengan Sistem Operasi versi 2.3 (Gingerbread). Selain itu PlayBook juga mendukung pengembangan aplikasi menggunakan Native C/C++, HTML5, Adobe Flash, dan Adobe AIR, serta dukungan terhadap gaming engine Airplay SDK dan Unity 3.

Pernyataan Lanjutan Resmi dari RIM Seputar Masalah Pajak

Hari ini adalah hari pertama BlackBerry DEVCON Asia 2011, sekitar 700 orang lebih hadir di acara yang dilaksanakan selama dua hari ini, 13-14 Januari 2011.

Seperti yang saya Tweet tadi pagi pada general session, Gregory Wade, Direktur Research In Motion (RIM) Asia Tenggara, tidak hanya menjelaskan tentang keseluruhan acara serta apa saja benefit yang bisa didapatkan bagi para peserta, terutama untuk para pengembang. RIM juga merilis berbagai update dari layanan mereka seperti versi beta dari BlackBerry WebWorks SDK untuk Tablet OS serta layanan tambahan untuk ponsel pintar BlackBerry.
