OFFICIAL: Wego Made Strategic Investment in Travel Site Valadoo

We’ve raised this news earlier, saying number of Valadoo’s shares has been taken over by Asia Pacific’s leading travel metasearch company, Wego. Now the news has been fully confirmed. According to the press release, Wego has made strategic investment in travel site Valadoo, with Wego’s co-founders Ross Veitch and Craig Hewett both joining Valadoo’s board of commissioners. Graham Hills, Managing Director of Wego Indonesia is also becoming member of Valadoo’s board of directors. Valadoo CEO, Jaka Wiradisuria will continue his post. The amount of investment is not disclosed.

With this investment, Valadoo will join Wego office in Jakarta and collaborating exclusive deals, editorial, digital marketing, and social programs. It’s a synergy on how traveling being planned and how the plan is being easily discovered. A Win-win for both side and also a nice solution for travelers craving for exciting local packages and getaways.

Travel Aggregator Site Wego to Invest in Travel Deal Site Valadoo

We were informed that a number of Valadoo’s shares been taken over by Wego. This news has been confirmed by the person who knows about Valadoo’s stock purchasing by Wego.

Although we didn’t catch the information on the amount of shares purchased but we did receive an information that the process of collaboration that occurs is similar to the concept of incubation: Valadoo will share an office with Wego. Jaka Wiradisuria, founder and CEO of Valadoo, a couple of days ago had posted on his Twitter account about the company status change, although there is no additional information that did it refer to Valadoo but it did indicate a change inside Valadoo.

By the end of last year, Wego officially released a dedicated site for Indonesian users. The travel market here seems to be one of the focuses of Wego’s business development. On the other hand, Valadoo is pretty active in giving out travel related promotion deals and it has its own travel blog called Jelajah.

Wego Dikabarkan Membeli Saham Valadoo

Kami mendapatkan informasi bahwa sejumlah saham dari Valadoo telah diambil oleh Wego. Kabar ini telah dikonfirmasi dengan orang yang mengetahui atas kabar pembelian saham Valadoo oleh Wego.

Meski kami tidak mendapatkan informasi tentang jumlah saham yang dibeli, namun informasi yang kami terima, proses kerja sama yang terjadi mirip dengan konsep inkubasi, Valadoo akan sharing kantor dengan Wego. Jaka Wiradisuria, founder dan CEO dari Valadoo sendiri beberapa hari kemarin sempat mem-posting di akun Twitter-nya tentang perubahan status perusahan, meski tidak ada informasi tambahan apakah ini merujuk pada Valadoo, namun mengindikasikan perubahan yang terjadi di Valadoo.

Startup in the travel segment for the year 2012 is indeed booming. Travel Site Veteran Skyscanner Admits Indonesian Market is Indeed Interesting

Skyscanner is not a new player in the online travel business. Skyscanner, focusing on comparing prices between different airlines, was established in 2001 in Edinburgh, Scotland by Gareth Williams, Barry Smith and Bonamy Grimes, and has been at the forefront in this business in Europe. Recently, Skyscanner has opened its second office in Singapore and in six months obtained 400% increase in traffic for Asia Pacific region, especially in Indonesia, although it did not specify the percentage of the traffic from Indonesia itself.

Surely, this fact is not so surprising. Availability of low cost airlines to various destinations and increasing level of prosperity have made this business booming. Skyscanner certainly does not want to just sit around in this race. It has set up Skyscanner.co.id that is entirely in Indonesian. It is safe to say that all domestic and International routes have been included in Skyscanner’s database and I do not find any difficulty to get prices of Garuda, Citilink or Sriwijaya on this site.
