Carol Bartz ousted as Yahoo searches for new CEO

AllThingsD reports that Yahoo’s board has fired Carol Bartz as its CEO, marking the end of a rocky 30 month period under the former Autodesk leader. At the time of the appointment Bartz came across as a no-nonsense leader who’s out to make sweeping changes into how the company is run. A year into her role, it didn’t seem like anything was changing. More than two years after her appointment, the board has had enough.

While Yahoo began as a web directory, it has been unclear in recent years as to what the company wants to become. Aside from Flickr, startups that it had acquired had mostly vanished or been fully absorbed with little significance among other more popular web properties. Even Flickr has been overshadowed by Facebook and Instagram. Yahoo’s own ventures to other web services have mostly been complete failures.

You guys have been working together for over a year and Koprol has been around for over 2.5 years but we haven’t seen major adoption of your service by third party apps and services thanks to your lack of open API. What is going on? Why can’t you guys get your shit together so you can finalize and release your damn API?

Many of your feature releases are ahead of Foursquare. Those guys are actually catching up with a lot of the stuff that your team put together in the past 2 years, these include image hosting, threaded comments, nearby venues, business profiles, and venue reviews.

So why aren’t you throwing your weight around?

Akhir pekan kita kembali bertemu dengan artikel rekap berbagai informasi yang ada di Dailylicious serta informasi yang masuk ke redaksi DailySocial. Informasi pertama hadir dari laporan Akamai yang menampilkan tentang penggunaan koneksi broadband di Indonesia serta pertumbuhan penggunaan narrowband dibandingkan dengan negara lain di dunia.

Untuk tema ini, artikel di DailySocial juga menyoroti tentang posisi Indonesia yang berada di urutan ketujuh untuk negara terlamban dalam hal konektivitas narrowband. Sebagai informasi pelengkap ada juga artikel yang menyoroti tentang laporan dari Opera Mini untuk data bulan Juni 2011.

Informasi selanjutnya masih berkaitan dengan hasil penelitian, kali ini Discovermobilelife merilis laporan yang menjelaskan tentang perilaku pengunaan ponsel oleh orang Indonesia. Akses Internet di Indonesia Melampaui Radio dan Surat Kabar

Penggunaan internet di Indonesia telah melampaui media tradisional dan berada di peringkat kedua setalah TV, menurut sebuah survei yang dilakukan oleh Yahoo! dan TNS. Survei yang diumumkan pada hari Selasa kemarin ini dilakukan di kota-kota besar dan lebih kecil di seluruh Indonesia.

Meningkatnya ketersediaan paket biaya internet yang murah dari operator mobile dan semakin terjangkaunya smartphone yang mampu mengakses internet telah mendorong pertumbuhan ini dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. Perkembangan ini juga berkontribusi terhadap meningkatnya penggunaan media sosial serta adopsi perdagangan elektronik.

Jaringan sosial menempati persentasi sebesar 89 persen dan menduduki posisi puncak dari daftar aktivitas online paling populer, disusul dengan portal web di 72 persen, penggunaan mesin pencari tumbuh 70 persen, dan aktivitas membaca berita di 61 persen. Hasil ini mungkin sedikit mengejutkan karena jaringan sosial tidak mencapai hasil persentasi yang lebih tinggi, padahal adopsi dan penggunaan jejaring sosial sangat luas di kalangan pengguna internet Indonesia.

Hasil survei ini telah berubah secara signifikan sejak pertama kali dilakukan. Pada tahun 2009, semua kegiatan di atas diwakili oleh sekitar 57 persen dari responden kecuali untuk aktivitas membaca berita yang hanya 47 persen.

More Indonesians have access to the Internet than to radio or newspapers

Internet reach in Indonesia has surpassed traditional media and ranks second only to TV according to a recent survey done by Yahoo! and TNS. The survey was conducted in several major and smaller cities across the country and announced on Tuesday.

Increasing availability of low-cost internet plans from mobile carriers and affordable internet-enabled smartphones have been fueling this growth in the past few years and contributes to the growing use of social media as well as adoption of electronic commerce.

At 89 percent, social networking tops the list of the most popular online activities with web portal visits following at 72 percent, search engine usage grew to 70 percent, and news reading at 61 percent. It is perhaps a little bit surprising that social network did not achieve a higher result given how pervasive it is among Indonesian internet users.

The landscape has changed significantly since the survey was first conducted. In 2009, all of the above activities were represented by around 57 percent of respondents except news reading which was a lowly 47 percent.
