Jakarta Will be the Only City in Asia Which Hold BBM Apps Hackaton

Research in Motion will hold BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) Apps Hackaton in nine cities in the world starting in September. Jakarta will be the only city in Asia which chosen as the venue. Other big cities chosen are in North America and Europe. This event take “by developers for developers” as its motto. RIM has not decided yet the time and venue in Jakarta event, but I predict that it might be held in November.

The focus of BBM Apps Hackaton is around the Social API implementation on BBM 6. RIM always pushes BBM Social Platform and claims to have more than 45 million users and 100 billion messages sent every month. By now, there is only one application from Indonesia has adopted BBM Social Platform. It is Menoo that is developed by Elasitas. The implementation is dealing with the users’ ability to do share their culinary activities to their friends via BBM status.

After suWec meetup, there was the Grand Final of Nokia DevStart Competition. As reported by DailySocial some days ago, there were 10 finalists on the grand final. They competed to be the Best Local App and Best NFC App.

Event Report : Gamelan Meetup Presented Square Enix

Some months ago, Gamelan – Yogyakarta Startup GameDev Community held their first meetup. This event was very rousing. Last Friday, on August 12th 2011, they held their second meetup at Humaniora Room, University Club UGM.

Participant were very enthusiastic. The impressive thing is that most of them came from other cities, far from Yogyakarta such as Salatiga and Surabaya.

Why did they come to this event? They didn’t only want to attend to this event but also wanted to meet some people from Square Enix – the Final Fantasy game maker. The Square Enix staff members coming to this event were Takashi Tokita – Producer, Mobie Division Senior Manager, Sachiko Takahashi – Bussiness Corporate Planning Division, and Hayato Sawada – Project Investment Manager Division.

Square Enix Seeks Mobile Game Opportunity in Indonesia

Last week, I and some media reporter got a chance to meet people from Square Enix: Takashi Tokita – Producer, Senior Manager Mobile Business, Sachiko Takahashi – Senior Manager, Business Development Corporate Planning Division dan Hayato Sawada -Project Investment Manager Division. They attended the public lecture and introduction to Game Ideas Competition event held by Mikti in ITB.

Surely I would not discuss about game or Square Enix game development. I am more interested in startup issues in game segment in Indonesia especially Bandung, more specific in mobile gaming.

There are some mobile game studio appear recently and some of them have been existing since long time and gives enough focus not only on game product they develop but also the startup game itself. Some of them are Anantarupa, Elasitas, Onebit, and in Bandung there are Nightspade which is funded by East Ventures, and Agate with its mass production of mobile game.
