First Experience, Getting Discounts with Foursquare Application in Local (Indonesia) Venue

Even if it might sounds a bit weird, frankly I was rarely even never use any discount facilities obtained from the check-in at a particular location with Foursquare applications, although I’m using location-based applications quite often such as Koprol, Foursquare and Gowalla.

It is still a hard thing to do – to get a discount by showing the results of check-in at a particular location – due to several reasons, such as my laziness, since the behavior to show the results of check-in itself is not my usual pattern of behavior in visiting a specific location (a cafe or a place to eat). Which means I have to add one new pattern in the activities of eating, for example by showing the phone’s display after I checked-in.

The second one is my own doubts on the certain location of business (cafe, etc.) whether they are ready to campaign through Fousquare system or just because it is popular, and the application of a discount program based on the activity of check-in itself is still unfamiliar for most location owners (though they are growing) compared with other promos such as discount coupons.

[Guest Post] eEvent on Launch Conference

The following article was written by Edy Sulistyo (picture on the right) founder of eEvent ( Edy S is one of eEvent co-founders, the other co-founders are Andi Sie and Lawrence), who will share eEvent’s experience in participating Launch, startups conference founded by Jason Calacanis. eEvent got the opportunity to introduce their service in front of Adeo Ressi (Founder Institute), Mark Pesce (The New Inventor), Jose Caballer (desainer MySpace redesign), Marshall Kirkpatrick (ReadWriteWeb), Naval Ravikant (AngelList), Brian Alvey and all of the participants.

I’ve been following updates on Sillicon Valley, startup and all events related to startup launch. I am often astonished and inspired every time I hear news about a startup getting the opportunity to pitch and present on prestigious events such as TechCrunch Disrupt (formerly TechCrunch 50). Because even though that startup might not win TechCrunch Disrupt Award, just by being there and present is enough to take them to a higher level, in branding or traction. Because the fact remains that there are hundreds of other startups have to be denied for a presentation due to so many other remarkable startups are chosen.

This was my first time attending their event and I was totally impressed with Jogjanese spirit, both committee’s and participants’. The total participants were 200 people out of 240 people registered online. Bancakan 2.0 meetup this time was very special because it also happened to be their 1st anniversary and collaborated with Nokia. Koprol starts monetization plan, launched Koprol for Business

Today Yahoo-Koprol held an event in Jakarta dedicated for business owners who would like to try their location based service as a tool for online marketing and promotion and officially launch Koprol for Business. Pretty much the same strategy with Foursquare, as business owner you can submit your business profile and promote to users who checked-in in the specific location.

Business owners can also put a sticker to show that their business is listed at Koprol and basically pull offline customers to Koprol’s service. When business owners listed as Business account, you can monitor the statistics for visitors visiting the venue on Koprol and analyze the information for further promotion and marketing strategy. And also business owner can claim a venue and customize the page with photos and wallpaper

We will post a further analysis of Koprol for Business on our next blog post.
