Developer Interest in Windows Phone Jumps, but at What Cost?

Analytics company Flurry published its findings earlier this week regarding mobile platforms that developers have been working on in the past year. The company discovered that the top two app ecosystems in the mobile space remains iOS and Android with iOS leading the pack by a very large margin. On the lower end of the spectrum however, Windows Phone has picked up a significant traction, bypassing BlackBerry as the third most attractive platform.

Despite Microsoft having a reduced market share between from 7.5% in March 2011 to 3.9% in March 2012, according to comScore, apparently the developers are more interested in the company’s platform than the consumers are. While the numbers include the defunct Windows Mobile and show a downward trend for Microsoft, developers don’t seem to be put off by it. Perhaps curiosity over the platform is driving app development for Windows Phone.

You Can Now Purchase Apps On Nokia Store Indonesia Using Credit Cards

Last April, Nokia debuted its mobile billing service in Indonesia to make it easier for consumers to purchase apps from the Nokia Store by allowing them to pay using their phone credits. The scheme was launched with three operators, Telkomsel, XL, and Indosat.

Starting today, Nokia customers in Indonesia will be able to purchase apps using credit cards. As posted by Widi Asmoro on his blog, credit card support has been granted for app purchases on Nokia Store in Indonesia. He also said that Nokia Store accepts Visa, Master Card, American Express, Diners Club, and JCB.

Payment is an important aspect, not just for consumers who wish to purchase apps especially those that have no free or ad-supported versions, but also to developers who rely on app sales. Phone credit deduction is especially important considering the low adoption of credit cards in Indonesia [and the overwhelming use of prepaid cards -Ed]. The simplicity of this system can be a boon for consumers who want to go beyond free apps.

Data Minat Jadi Modal Usaha Iklan Twitter

Interest Graph Powers Twitter’s Advertising Efforts

Bloomberg Businessweek profiles Twitter in its latest issue and goes deep into its journey to find the right business model and revenue generator that do not repel its highly sensitive members. Following a turmoil in its first four years, Twitter found stability in 2011 and is set to soar in 2012 with its newly minted advertising business through promoted accounts, tweets, and trends. Businesses are also invited to create enhanced Twitter pages for a fee.

Twitter’s advertising is centered around an interest graph. It strives to find out what kind of person you are based on who you follow, what you share, and what links you click. CEO Dick Costolo thinks this is better than Facebook’s model which is very personal, and sometimes too personal. The interest graph is a little bit more broad as it discovers what kind of person you are instead of who you are.
