The other day we reported the launch of Bilna, an e-commerce site that sells baby products. The people behind the web site? Ferry Tenka and Jason Lamuda, both of whom are the co-founders of Disdus which became Groupon Indonesia. Lamuda himself had been an advisor at a fashion e-commerce site called BerryBenka, co-founded by his wife and her friend back in August 2011. With the two co-founders of Groupon Indonesia focusing on their own companies, the obvious question is, “what’s happening with Groupon Indonesia?”. Berrybenka Receives Investment from East Ventures

We heard the news that East Ventures has added Berrybenka into its investment portfolio. Berrybenka is one of few curated online commerce startup which focuses on women fashion and has similar product line with Zalora (from Rocket Internet) and Ratimaya. Until today, Berrrybenka has already had more than 50 brands as partners with 3000 different products. The investment value from East Ventures is not disclosed.

Berrybenka is founded on August 2011 by Claudia Widjaja and Yenti Elizabeth. Interestingly, Berrybenka also has Jason J. Lamuda and Ferry Tanka as recently-joint advisors. Both people are founders of  Disdus which has been acquired by Groupon and previously was in investment list of East Ventures too.

The fund obtained, according to Claudia Widjaja, will be utilized to build Berrybenka as the leading fashion commerce site in Indonesia that promotes local brands and designers. Speaking about its portfolio, this is East Ventures’ first startup that focus on fashion commerce and should be interesting to hear as fashion commerce will be one segment to spark this year.

East Ventures closes the year with Disdus investment

East Ventures is not going to end this year without some serious announcement for their Indonesian portfolio, as we receive a press release from Jason Lamuda, CEO and co-founder of Disdus. Disdus launched in August 2010 –together with 2 other similar sites– is one of the biggest Groupon clone in Indonesia together with DealKeren as incumbent players in the collective commerce scene. Their partnership with Kaskus in October boost up their visibility and gained new users from the mammoth forum, and apparently their partnership with the people behind Kaskus is only getting better.
