Guvera Isn’t Perfect But It’s Pretty Damn Good

Australia’s music streaming service Guvera was finally available in Indonesia last Tuesday following a few months of beta period and the service was given a full refresh which included the debut of listener profiles and celebrity playlists. How does the service fare so far?

I’ve been using Guvera on the iPhone and iPad and I have to say that it’s pretty damn close to how I would expect a music streaming service to be. [Manic Monday] Thank You Aquarius Mahakam

This morning I stopped by Aquarius Mahakam. The fence to the parking area was still partly closed with only one car parked, because they will only be open at 10. A security guard was sweeping the parking area from dry leaves and litter. I asked him: “Sir, I hear the store’s closing?” He turned, gave be a slight, bitter smile and answered “Yes, so they say.” “Until when will it be open?” “End of the month,” he answered. I moved on as I had to rush to the office.

Pagi ini saya mampir ke Aquarius Mahakam. Pagar depan halaman parkir masih sebagian tertutup, hanya ada satu mobil parkir, karena memang baru akan buka jam 10. Ada satu orang satpam sedang menyapu halaman parkir dari daun-daun dan sampah yang tergeletak. Saya bertanya padanya: “Pak, denger-denger mau tutup ya?” Sang satpam menoleh dengan senyum sedikit getir dan menjawab, “Iya, katanya begitu.” “Sampai kapan Pak, bukanya?” Beliau menjawab, “Akhir bulan sih.” Saya pun berlalu, karena harus bergegas ke kantor.

[Manic Monday] Reviving Music CD Sales

Sales of music CDs have been experiencing a year-on-year decline since the turn of the century. This has happened in line with the spread of MP3s through the internet, through services like Napster, Kazaa and so on. The choice of downloading songs from the internet, with ‘just’ an internet connection (or even through a friend who as an internet connection), appeared to have impact to the previous habit of buying CDs, at the CD producer’s expense. These recording companies then targeted these services as pirates, and asked them to take on the burden of lost sales by facilitating the unauthorized spread of songs.

LangitMusik dan MelOn Indonesia Hadirkan Aplikasi di Platform iOS

Setelah hadir di sejumlah platform smartphone lain, aplikasi LangitMusik dan MelOn Indonesia hadir untuk platform iOS dan bisa diunduh secara bebas di iTunes. Saat ini disebutkan melalui IndoTelko bahwa kedua aplikasi tersebut menyediakan sekitar satu juta lagu yang bisa diunduh secara legal. Bedanya LangitMusik hanya bisa digunakan oleh pengguna Telkomsel, sementara MelOn Indonesia yang juga merupakan anak perusahaan Grup Telkom bisa dimanfaatkan oleh konsumen umum.
