Sejumlah Pentunjuk Mengindikasikan Hadirnya Versi Remaster Crash Team Racing

Crash Team Racing boleh dibilang sebagai jawaban Sony atas kepopuleran seri Mario Kart punya Nintendo. Terlepas dari pemakaian formula balapan kart serupa, CTR berhasil mencuri perhatian berkat aspek visual yang atraktif, gameplay adiktif, serta karakter-karakter eksentrik dan familier yang Naughty Dog perkenalkan di tiga permainan Crash Bandicoot sebelumnya.

Franchise Crash Bandicoot telah pindah kepemilikian beberapa kali, tapi akhirnya ia bangkit lagi di era Activision melalui Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy dengan nostalgia sebagai bahan bakar utamanya. N. Sane Trilogy terbukti sukses, peluncurannya di PS4 melampaui rekor yang dipegang Horizon Zero Dawn – belum termasuk versi Switch, Xbox One dan PC. Membuntuti keberhasilan itu, rumor menyatakan bahwa Activision kali ini berniat me-remaster Crash Team Racing.

Petunjuk mengenai eksistensinya muncul awal minggu ini lewat update foto cover laman Facebook Crash Bandicoot PS4 yang memperlihatkan gambar bendera balap. Kemudian di tanggal 4 Desember kemarin, melalui Twitter-nya presenter PlayStation Access Hollie Bennett memamerkan foto sepasang dadu berbulu warna jingga yang biasanya digantung di kaca spion mobil. Merchandise ini ditemani oleh pesan bertuliskan ‘Meluncur di The Game Awards 6/12’.

Animasi bendera balap kotak-kotak berwarna monokromatis sendiri sempat dipakai sebagai latar belakang sesi intro permainan Crash Team Racing. Buat sekarang, pihak Sony ataupun Activision memang belum mengonfirmasi apapun, namun dari diskusi di page Facebook Crash Bandicoot PS4 maupun Twitter Hollie Bennett, fans merasa yakin ini adalah indikasi kuat pengumuman versi remaster-nya.

Ada kemungkinan besar pengumuman akan dilangsungkan di acara The Game Awards 2018 yang jatuh pada tanggal 6 Desember, pukul 18:00 waktu Pasifik, atau jam 9:00 pagi WIB di tanggal 7 Desember besok. Selain versi remaster Crash Team Racing, publisher lain sempat memberi petunjuk soal agenda mereka mengumumkan sekuel dari Alien Isolation (Alien: Blackout) dan permainan keenam seri Far Cry.

Crash Team Racing adalah salah satu permainan terlaris di era console genarasi kelima, terjual sebanyak lebih dari 1,71 juta kopi di kawasan Eropa, 2,64 juta kopi di Amerika Serikat, dan hampir menyentuh 500 ribu kopi di Jepang. Kesuksesannya mendorong Sony untuk memasukkan permainan dalam daftar Greatest Hits dan merilis ulangnya di tahun 2000.

Game racing ini juga memunculkan sekuel ‘tak langsung’ berjudul Crash Nitro Kart, namun ia tidak lagi digarap oleh Naughty Dog, melainkan oleh tim Vicarious Visions dan dipublikasikan Activision. Sayang, respons media dan gamer tidak sepositif Crash Team Racing karena Crash Nitro Kart tidak banyak menawarkan inovasi.

Epic Games Luncurkan Platform Distribusi Digital Pesaing Steam

Bagi kalangan kasual, Epic Games terkenal lewat permainan battle royale populer, Fortnite. Tapi menelusuri perjalanannya di ranah gaming, Epic Games merupakan salah satu developer berpengalaman yang punya andil besar di industri – terutama melalui pengembangan Unreal Engine. Umur studio asal North Carolina itu bahkan lebih tua dari Valve Corp.

Sejauh ini, Epic Games dan Valve punya khalayaknya sendiri dan berbisnis tanpa berkompetisi langsung. Namun boleh jadi, dalam waktu dekat keduanya akan mulai bersaing. Di minggu ini, diketahui bahwa tim di belakang seri Gears of War itu punya agenda untuk meluncurkan platform distribusi pesaing Steam. Namanya cukup sederhana, tapi terdengar catchy di telinga: Epic Games Store.

CEO Tim Sweeney menjelaskan bahwa mereka sudah lama ingin menggarap platform yang dapat menyambungkan tim Epic Games dengan para pemain. Awalnya, mereka bereksperimen lewat Fortnite – permainan ini tidak ada di Steam, hanya bisa diakses melalui software milik Epic Games. Sweeney bilang, percobaan tersebut berhasil dan berkeinginan untuk membuka gerbangnya bagi developer lain.

Ketika Valve menerapkan pembagian keuntungan 30 banding 70, Epic Games Store menawarkan angka yang lebih menggoda buat studio third-party: mereka hanya meminta komisi 12 persen, dan sisanya diterima oleh sang pencipta permainan. Epic Games berencana untuk meluncurkan platform ini secara ‘perlahan-lahan’, dengan koleksi game yang tak terlalu banyak dan mereka pilih sendiri.

Penambahan jumlah game akan terus dilakukan di tahun 2019, hingga nanti saat Epic Games merasa yakin mereka tak perlu lagi melakukan kurasi. Tiap permainan yang dijual di sana tetap harus mendapatkan persetujuan sang penyedia layanan, namun mereka hanya akan melakukan penakaran dari sisi teknis dan bukan berdasarkan konten – kecuali pada permainan-permainan bertema dewasa.

Dengan kemudahan akses serta jumlah pengguna yang sangat banyak, Steam memang terlihat berada di atas angin. Belum lama ini, Valve juga mengungkap rencana buat mengurangi persentase imbalan dari 30:70 jadi 25 persen. Kemudian mereka hanya mengambil 20 persen dari tiap penjualan game senilai  US$ 50 juta. Lewat langkah ini, Valve tampaknya ingin menjaga agar publisher blockbuster tidak menarik diri dari Steam.

Menariknya, Tim Sweeney sempat bilang bahwa mereka tidak berkeinginan untuk berduel dengan Steam. Epic Games hanya ingin ‘memberikan penawaran terbaik bagi developer serta memperluas kesempatan pencipta konten buat berkreasi’. Epic Games Store akan dapat diakses di tanggal 6 Desember besok, ditandai oleh dilangsungkannya The Game Awards 2018.

Itu berarti, Epic Games resmi mengikuti jejak Electronic Arts dan Activision-Blizzard dalam menyediakan platform distribusinya sendiri.

Mundurnya Geoff Keighley dari Video Game Awards karena sang produser merasa perhelatan itu lebih diarahkan pada aspek komersial ternyata merupakan keputusan tepat. Dilangsungkan sejak 2014, The Game Awards adalah realisasi dari visi Keighley mengenai acara selebrasi ideal yang dimaksudkan untuk mengapresiasi pencapaian-pencapaian penting di industri gaming.

Penyelenggara memilih bulan Desember sebagai momen dilaksanakannya The Game Awards. Dan sebagaimana tradisi sebelumnya, Keighley dan kawan-kawan biasanya mengumumkan nominasi game-game yang berpeluang menerima penghargaan beberapa minggu sebelumnnya. Video Game Awards ialah acara pemberian gelar game tahunan yang telah dilangsungkan Spike TV sejak 2003. Tapi meskipun mereka mengubah format dan namanya menjadi VGX, event di tahun 2013 dianggap mengecewakan serta mendapatkan kritik karena lebih diarahkan pada sisi komersial dan malah bukan seperti perayaan pencapaian penting di ranah itu.

Sang produser Geoff Keighley memutuskan untuk mengundurkan diri dan mempesilakan Spike mempertahankan hak atas VGA, namun Spike malah memilih buat menghentikannya secara permanen. Hal tersebut mendorong Keighley untuk menciptakan acara baru bertajuk The Game Awards, kali ini disiarkan lewat layanan home console serta Steam sehingga bisa merangkul lebih banyak pemirsa.

Daftar Permainan Pemenang The Game Awards 2016

The Game Awards 2016 terasa lebih istimewa dari ajang sebelumnya. Sang produser Geoff Keighley sempat bilang bahwa timnya memutuskan buat mengurangi porsi trailer CG, dan untuk pertama kalinya, acara ini ditayangkan di Tiongkok serta disajikan dalam VR dan resolusi 4K. The Witcher 3 Dominasi Daftar Nominasi The Game Awards 2015

Diracik sebagai penerus Video Game Awards oleh Spike TV serta diproduksi oleh sang host Geoff Keighley, The Game Awards merupakan acara pemberian gelar terhadap judul-judul permainan istimewa dalam rentang setahun. Tidak seperti sebelumnya, event disiarkan secara eksklusif lewat internet, dan kita bisa menikmatinya tanpa perlu membayar via platform video streaming.

Setelah menggelar debutnya tahun 2014 silam, The Game Awards 2015 kembali siap dilangsungkan. Selain pemilihan permainan terbaik, akan ada penayangan trailer premier serta pertunjukan musik dari musisi ternama.
