Microsoft’s SkyDrive Now Available as Apps for Windows Phone and iPhone

If you’re a fan of Dropbox, box.net, or any other online storage service, you might want to start paying attention to Microsoft. The Redmond folks released SkyDrive for iPhone and Windows Phone on Wednesday. SkyDrive lets you have 25 Gigabytes of free online storage in which you can store and share any digital file you want.

While Windows Phone users has had SkyDrive linked to their photo gallery and Office app, it hadn’t been available for much else aside from Windows Live email. Windows Phone owners automatically receive SkyDrive upon registering to the Microsoft’s Live service, which is required for every Windows Phone.

Vena Helps You Track Vaccinations for Your Baby

As a parent with a baby, I realized that apps like this is crucial to help parents tracks our baby’s health and vaccinations. Sometimes parents are so busy, they forgot to keep track on their baby’s vaccination schedules.

This app solves this very problem. This app aims to help parents anticipate this issue although unfortunately this app is only available on the Windows Phone platform – despite the fact that it’s not even officially marketed in Indonesia.

This app is called Vena, developed by Bandung-based RadyaLabs, the same company who developed Dailysocial App for Windows Phone. RadyaLabs currently has 6 engineers, in which all of them are ITB (Institute Teknologi Bandung) alum. Vena is published for Windows Phone and available globally for $1.99, and currently the only app on the platform with such concept.

Vena gives you information on customizable vaccination planning and scheduling, so for those who are clueless about these things can have a good start. It’s a fun app for me because it saves my time to plan my baby’s vaccination and try to keep it on track.

Vena, Aplikasi Tracking Imunisasi untuk Windows Phone

Sebagai orang tua yang memiliki balita, saya sadar bahwa aplikasi seperti ini sangat membantu kita men-track seberapa baik penjadwalan imunisasi terhadap si buah hati. Kadang dengan berbagai kesibukan yang ada, kita lupa untuk tracking kapan lagi saat mengimunisasi dan sudah lengkapkah imunisasi yang kita jadwalkan.

Nampaknya ini merupakan satu-satunya aplikasi buatan pengembang Indonesia yang mengantisipasi permasalahan ini. Sayangnya cuma satu, baru ada di Windows Phone Marketplace secara berbayar — sesuatu yang belum secara resmi hadir di Indonesia.

Vena, nama aplikasi ini, dibuat oleh tim pengembang spesialis aplikasi Windows Phone dari Bandung — Radya Labs. Radya Labs juga membuat aplikasi DailySocial untuk Windows Phone. Saat ini Radya Labs terdiri dari enam orang yang semuanya merupakan alumni Teknik Informatika ITB. Vena ditawarkan seharga $1.99 dan menyasar konsumen luar dan menurut tim Radya Labs sendiri belum ada aplikasi serupa yang hadir di Windows Phone Marketplace secara global.

Bagaimana Masa Depan Qt Bagi Nokia?

DailySocial selama dua bulan ini menggelar rangkaian acara DevStart, sebuah kompetisi pengembangan aplikasi mobile, atas nama Nokia menggunakan platform Qt dengan MeeGo sebagai target perangkat pengembangan aplikasi. Event ini menggelitik rasa ingin tahu mengapa Nokia Indonesia memutuskan untuk mendukung acara ini meskipun secara praktis mereka telah meninggalkan MeeGo bahkan sebelum benar-benar diluncurkan.

MeeGo adalah platform mobile yang Nokia persiapkan menjadi fondasi dari masa depan platform mereka, tapi itu sebelum Stephen Elop mengambil alih sebagai CEO dan membawa Windows Phone dari Microsoft dan menggantikan MeeGo.

Sistem operasi ponsel berbasis Linux ini kemudian diturunkan dan menjadi misteri. Perkembangannya menjadi catatan sejarah tersendiri, karena menjadi sebuah proyek yang dipelihara hanya untuk melihat tahap final pengembangannya dimatikan. N9 dapat dibilang akan menjadi satu-satunya perangkat berbasis MeeGo dari Nokia yang diluncurkan secara komersil.

What Does Nokia Have in Mind for Qt?

DailySocial for the past couple of months has been running DevStart, a mobile apps development competition, on behalf of Nokia using its Qt platform with MeeGo as its target device. It’s somewhat a curiosity why Nokia Indonesia decided to press on with the event even though it has practically abandoned MeeGo before it was even properly launched.

MeeGo was the mobile platform that Nokia was prepping to become the foundation of its future, but that was before Stephen Elop took over as CEO and brought on Microsoft’s Windows Phone to ruin MeeGo’s party.

The Linux-based mobile operating system was then relegated to a curiosity, a pet project done simply to see out its final development phase before being cast off as another mark in history. The N9 is all but confirmed to be the one and only commercial MeeGo device by Nokia.

Nokia akhirnya bekerja sama dengan Microsoft, gunakan Windows Phone 7

Melalui rilis pers-nya, akhirnya terkuak bahwa Nokia dan Microsoft akhirnya menandatangani strategic partnership jangka panjang, di mana salah satu poin pentingnya adalah penggunaan Windows Phone 7 sebagai sistem operasi untuk ponsel pintar utamanya. Ini mengakhiri spekulasi tentang masa depan Symbian dan MeeGo. Symbian dan MeeGo sendiri nampaknya akan tetap ada untuk proyek jangka panjang berbasis open source, tapi untuk sekarang Nokia yakin penggunaan Windows Phone 7 akan mampu mendongkrak penjualan ponsel pintarnya yang semakin tergerus oleh Apple iPhone dan Android.
