After 15 hours of overnight coding, developers who went through the Sparxup 2012 Hackathon finally got the chance to show their creations in front of judges, other developers, as well as others who attended the demo day on Thursday. Each participant were given 15 minutes to present their apps. While 13 teams were registered at the event, not all of the teams made it to the demo day.

BitsMedia Releases Muslim Pro 5.0 for iPhone

Apps developer form Singapore, Bitsmedia, released a newest version of Muslim Pro app for iPhone last week. In the launching before the Ramadhan, Muslim Pro launched several new features to provide more comfortable worship during Ramadhan.

Bitmedia adds a more user friendly interface navigation in to Muslim Pro 5.0. With this navigation, user will get a dashboard packed with easy access to Muslim Pro’s main features. Those features include adzan time, accurate time for sahur and breakfasting, a compas to determine the Qibla, The Quran in 5 languanges including Bahasa Indonesia.

Not only that, Muslim Pro also integrates with Foursquare API to allow user to find nearest halal restaurant and mosque. Muslim Pro user can also check the Hijriyah calendar available inside the app.

Erwan Mace, founder and CEO of Bitsmedia hopes that this Muslim Pro app will be the destination for Moslems who wants to find accurate information in a user friendly app.

Local Developers Optimistic of Blackberry’s Future

Research In Motion (RIM) is in crisis. Its global sales figures is decreasing and the company experiences a huge loss. Its newest operating system, the BlackBerry 10 which mentioned to be able to save RIM, is postponed until next year. However, RIM is still trying hard to embrace developers, one of the ways is holding BlackBerry 10 Jam, including in Jakarta, last Tuesday.

The result, developers’ enthusiasm is seen in the event. Around 350 developers from many places are present in the event which introduce the BlackBerry 10 operating system. In addition to show how to build an app for BlackBerry 10, RIM also gives out BlackBerry Dev Alpha to help developers in building apps for BlackBerry 10.

I had the chance to contact three developers who participated in BlackBerry 10 Jam. The three of them give a good impression about BlackBerry 10, both from the presentation they see and after trying BlackBerry 10 in the BlackBerry Dev Alpha device they received. They are especially impressed with BB 10’s smooth and lag-free multitasking system. The look of BB 10 is also far better than the previous operating system.

Movreak Received Best Local Mobile Application in Selular Award

Movreak, an application made by a company from Bandung, Dycode, was awarded as the Best Local Mobile Application in the 9th Selular Award which was held last Wednesday in Jakarta.

Movreak is an application that provides information and schedule of movies currently playing in local theaters, both in XXI network and BlitzMegaplex network. Movreak also provides integration with social media features like Foursquare, Twitter and Facebook. This application is available in a variety of platforms such iOS, Symbian and Windows Phone.

Dyan R. Helmi from Dycode said that Dycode is grateful that Movreak can still get an award for the umpteenth time since its release. For the next, Dycode hopes that this application could still be further developed so that it can continue to meet the needs of its users.

Since its release on May 8, 2012, Movreak has won several awards as The Best Local Mobile Application. Some of them are on the Sparxup Awards 2010 and Sinyal’s Indonesia Cellular Award (ICA) 2011.
