How PriceArea Saved My Day From Horrible Ecommerce Experience

This post is going to sound like a big-fat promotion but I’ll say it up front that – as usual – I’m not getting paid for any editorial publications I post on DailySocial. However I feel strongly about publishing this piece to make sure people know about the problem with many e-commerce sites (and startups in general).

So, here it goes.

Earlier today I suddenly feel the need to buy a wireless mouse to support and boost my productivity (yeah right) and I decided that I want a magic mouse. So I started to roam around local e-commerce sites to find one with decent price and convenient delivery.

I started to visit three of the big e-commerce sites that first came to my mind, I don’t need to say which ones. After 30 mins of browsing and trying to find a magic mouse, I got frustrated. Not because it’s expensive or unavailable, but because it’s ridiculously hard to find them. Why? Because most of the search engine on these e-commerce sites are really bad. Adopsi Mobile Commerce Semakin Luas

Sebuah studi oleh MEF pada bulan Juni tahun ini menemukan bahwa 82 persen konsumen telah menggunakan ponsel mereka untuk melakukan pembelian. Produk yang paling sering dibeli adalah produk digital, meskipun banyak dari konsumen juga membeli tiket, buku, dan barang elektronik menggunakan ponsel mereka .

Pembayaran e-commerce yang cukup populer merupakan melalui tagihan layanan seluler sebagaimana direspon oleh 38% dari responden yang terdiri dari 8.350 orang di sembilan negara, yaitu Brasil, Mesir, India, Indonesia, Amerika Serikat, Afrika Selatan, Singapura, Qatar, dan Inggris.

Mobile commerce sees vast adoption

world mapA study by MEF in June of this year discovered that 82 percent of consumers have used their mobile phones to make a purchase, with digital products being the most commonly bought, although many have also bought tickets, books, and electronic goods using their mobile phones.

Electronic commerce payment is popular primarily through mobile operator billing which accounts for 38% of respondents, made up of 8,350 individuals across nine countries, namely Brazil, Egypt, India, Indonesia, United States, South Africa, Singapore, Qatar, and the UK.

eBay Tunjuk Edelman sebagai Agensi Humas untuk Asia Pasifik , Semakin Serius Dengan Wilayah Ini

eBay baru saja mengumumkan bahwa mereka telah menunjuk Edelman sebagai agensi Humas untuk wilayah Asia Pasifik dan menangani perdagangan lintas batas di kawasan tersebut. Asia Pasifik menyumbangkan 20 persen dari nilai penjualan di Q4 tahun 2010. Penunjukan ini mengikuti hubungan antara dua perusahaan yang sudah terjalin di Amerika Serikat. Agensi HuMas ini diharapkan bisa “meningkatkan kesadaran atas kesempatan untuk para pedagang dan pengusaha di Asia.”

Edelman juga akan memberikan nasihat serta panduan tentang komunikasi dan pendekatan strategis pada eBay dalam memenuhi tujuan mereka untuk mempelajari lebih lanjut tentang wilayah dan meningkatkan adopsi layanan mereka di Asia Pasifik.

Sementara operasi regional akan berpusat di Hong Kong, kantor Edelman di seluruh kawasan Asia Pasifik akan secara aktif terlibat dan mempelajari pasar atas nama eBay. Bulan Mei lalu eBay memilih Edelman Australia sebagai agensi mereka untuk negara tersebut.

eBay Appoints Edelman as Asia Pacific PR Agency, Gets Serious About the Region

eBay just announced that it has appointed Edelman as its Asia Pacific PR agency to deal with cross border trade in the region as it represents 20 percent of the company’s sales in Q4 2010. The appointment follows the relationship between the two companies in the US. The PR agency is expected to “raise awareness of the opportunities to traders and entrepreneurs in Asia.”

Edelman will also provide counsel and guidance regarding strategic communications and approach to the online shopping site as it aims to learn more about the region and improve its adoption in Asia Pacific.

Blibli Diluncurkan Sebagai E-Commerce Yang Mudah dan Menyenangkan

Meramaikan industri e-commerce di Indonesia, Blibli.com kemarin diluncurkan secara resmi di Jakarta oleh CEO Kusumo Martanto. Blibli memposisikan diri sebagai online mall dengan konsep berbelanja mudah, fun dan bebas.

Blibli menjalin rekanan dengan IBM dan berinvestasi lumayan besar di teknologi yang digunakan di backend situs ecommerce tersebut. Kusumo menyatakan bahwa teknologi merupakan kunci penting sebagai pengantar pengalaman berbelanja bagi user, berdasarkan pertimbangan inilah akhirnya blibli memutuskan untuk menggunakan platform ecommerce milik IBM untuk menjamin stabilitas, skalabilitas dan pastinya security.

Namun ironisnya, ketika saya menuliskan posting ini server mereka justru bertingkah dan menampilkan pesan error 404.

Rakuten Offers Cash on Delivery (COD) Option

If you’re hear “e-commerce website”, the first thing that cross your mind will be everything electronic. Payment method is usually by credit card or debit card using Internet banking. Even so, most of Indonesian people by nature has less faith towards online shopping. Rakuten Belanja Online (RBO) offers other alternative, Cash On Delivery (COD) that enables customers to pay AFTER the goods is delivered, not before.

This method is at the moment available for Jakarta area and yet to be applied by all merchants, we haven’t find out what mechanisme needed for merchant to use this method as well. Unlike regular transaction where delivery is done by each merchants, COD delivery will be done by Rakuten themselves. Rakuten will collect goods from merchant and deliver them to buyer.

Stasion Workshop #3: “New Wave of E-Commerce The Challenge & Opportunity for Startup”

Stasion, a startup community from Malang have several agendas and programs. Stasion Internal Meetup is a routine members gathering. Stasion Public Meetup is a routine gathering for public, larger than Internal Meetup. Last but not least is Stasion Workshop, open for public.

Workshop this time will talk about “New Wave of E-Commerce The Challenge & Opportunity for Startup”. It will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 on 09.00 – 14.30 WIB at Gedung INBIS Universitas Brawijaya, Jl. Veteran No. 11 – 12, Malang – Indonesia (maps). Stasion Workshop is supported by INAICTA 2011 team.

The first session will present INAICTA 2011 team. Looks like there will be socialization on INAICTA 2011 and sharing from several INAICTA’s previous years winners, maybe it will be like what they did at Gamelan community’s event in May. Second session will present two speakers related to workshop’s theme, Peter Widjaja (VP of Operation at East Ventures) and Amri (Founder Game4Smart dan AlfaSoft).

Dailylicious Recap This Week

Lots of articles and information regarding startup-investor both in Dailylicious or DailySocial. But first, there’s an interesting article we shared in Dailylicious wrote by Niall Kennedy, Hat Trick Media’s consultant, specializing in applying techniques for business in web development, he wrote an article on how a website should react over modern browser’s development, “a new prerender behaviour”, you can see it here.

Still at the same day, there is an interesting article intended for startup, basically this article bring up 6 questions which startup can’t answered and rejected by the VC, this article was written by Keet Van Zyl, an investor for early-stage business. Permasalahan Pada Dunia E-commerce di Indonesia

Kelihatannya, Indonesia bukan hanya terkenal akan pasar mobile-nya yang besar, namun juga apapun yang berhubungan dengan sosial, e-commerce dan games. Banyak orang yang tertarik dengan e-commerce di Indonesia, tahun lalu adalah tahunnya e-commerce, ditandai dengan diluncurkannya lebih dari 20 perusahaan e-commerce. Dan tentu saja banyak yang kemudian gagal, menyisakan para pemain yang telah mapan seperti Rakuten, TokoBagus, Plasa, Berniaga, Kemana, Tokopedia, dll.

Namun sejauh ini, belum ada yang cukup sukses di pasar yang sangat luas dan penuh kesempatan ini. Ada beberapa masalah yang mereka hadapi dalam menjalankan usahanya, saya akan coba membahas sebagian dari permasalahan tersebut.
