Mobile Games Developer War 2 Selesai, Nokia Persiapkan Mobile Games Developer War 3

Mobile Games Developer War 2, rangkaian acara lomba pengembangan game yang diselenggarakan bersama oleh Agate Studio dan Nokia, telah selesai diselenggarakan. Minggu lalu, acara tersebut telah mengumumkan juaranya. Berturut-turut sebagai juara pertama sampai ketiga, seperti yang dikutip dari Kompas adalah Creacle dengan game Virtual Pet, Elventales Games dengan game Sky Express, dan Own Games yang membuat game Beyond the Well.

Untuk menentukan juara event kali ini, yang digunakan adalah jumlah unduhan yang dilakukan oleh pengguna. Menurut Narenda Wicaksono, Developer Outreach Manager, Nokia South East Asia, dalam sebuah wawancara singkat melalui email, konsep ini dipilih karena Nokia ingin memastikan keterikatan masyarakat dalam rangkaian kegiatan kali ini. Jika pada gelaran Mobile Games Developer War pertama masyarakat hanya bisa menonton acara live coding sebagai ‘hiburan’, pada Mobile Games Developer War kedua ini, sekitar 1,5 miliar pengguna Nokia di seluruh dunia bisa ikut berpartisipasi langsung dalam memilih pemenangnya.

Tentang Run Princess Run dan Imaginarium Games, Studio Game Indie

Sebelum pergantian tahun ini, DailySocial sempat menulis tren yang akan terjadi pada tahun 2012. Salah satu yang disebut saat itu adalah mobile games. Tahun 2012 baru berjalan dua bulan, namun telah banyak perusahaan lokal yang aktif beraktivitas dalam bidang game mobile. Salah satu yang baru muncul adalah Imaginarium Games. Studio game yang berbasis di kota Yogyakarta ini, baru saja meluncurkan games pertama mereka yang diberi judul “Run Princess Run!”.

Saat ini Run Princess Run hanya terdapat dalam platform Nokia. Setelah mendapat sambutan baik di 113 negara, mereka berencana membuat game ini dalam platform Android dan Windows Mobile. Sementara itu, dalam usaha promosi Run Princess Run, mereka mengadakan kompetisi highscore yang berhadiah ponsel Nokia. Imaginarium Games menyatakan dirinya sebagai sebuah studio game development yang indie. Meskipun baru didirikan Februari 2012, mereka sudah bisa merilis game pertamanya yang telah digarap bersama sebelum Imaginarium Games ini berdiri. Saat ini, Imaginarium Games hanya terdiri dari 4 orang saja (1 game designer dan 3 programmer). Mereka mengaku, saat ini mencari seorang artist yang memiliki kesamaan ide dengan mereka, untuk di ajak bergabung dengan Imaginarium.

Google Quietly Released Leaderboard, Is It A Threat To Competitors?

Last week, Google announced the latest release version of Google Maps for Android via @googlemaps Twitter account. In its tweet, Google announced the latest release to improve battery performance for Latitude application and history location users. It turns out that within Latitude app in Google Maps is a secretly embedded new feature called Leaderboard.

The exciting thing is the Leaderboard feature is similar to services available at Foursquare. According to The Verge, with the Leaderboard feature, user will get points when doing check-in; these points will then be compared with existing friends in Google+ circle. In addition, the leaderboard will be equipped with a status level; Visitor, regular, VIP and teachers depend on the user frequency level at the specific place. The difference with Foursquare is Leaderboard does not have Mayor status for the most frequent check-in user at the site.

RIM Released Playbook 2.0, Is It the Rise of the Playbook?

One of RIM’s policies that we have been waiting for finally arrived. On Tuesday, February 21st 2012, RIM released the latest operating system for Blackberry Playbook tablet. These tablet users may be able to download the latest operating system for free. In a news release, RIM BlackBerry Playbook claimed that the new OS 2.0 will provide an increased experience using the tablet, thus it could make users having every best moment by using their BlackBerry Playbook in daily life both at work or play.

Not many surprises that RIM has presented in this update. This operating system allows Playbook running Android application which had been converted (as already discussed previously in DailySocial). As addition, finally, Playbook 2.0 has the default application allowing users to receive email from their Playbook.

Rather than to attract new users, this Playbook update is more to impress or satisfy existing Playbook user. An email application is allowing users to receive email from multiple accounts but this isn’t their advantage. Almost all Android tablet and iPad are able to do this since their first launched.

RIM Rilis PlayBook 2.0, Kebangkitan PlayBook?

Satu dari kebijakan RIM yang ditunggu-tunggu akhirnya tiba. Selasa, 21 Februari kemarin, RIM merilis sistem operasi terbaru untuk tablet Blackberry PlayBook. Pengguna tablet ini mulai bisa mengunduh sistem operasi terbaru ini secara gratis. Dalam rilis beritanya, RIM mengklaim bahwa BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 yang baru akan menyajikan peningkatan pengalaman dalam menggunakan tablet, agar penggunanya dapat membuat setiap momen menjadi yang terbaik dengan menggunakan BlackBerry PlayBook mereka dengan cara-cara baru di kesehariannya baik saat kerja maupun bermain.

Tidak banyak kejutan yang dihadirkan RIM dalam update ini. Sistem operasi ini memungkinkan PlayBook menjalankan aplikasi Android yang sudah di-convert, seperti yang sudah dibahas di DailySocial sebelumnya. Selain itu, akhirnya, PlayBook 2.0 mempunyai aplikasi bawaan yang memungkinkan pengguna menerima email dari PlayBook-nya.

Alih-alih untuk menarik pengguna baru, update PlayBook ini lebih terkesan sebagai pemuas untuk mereka yang sudah mempunyai PlayBook. Aplikasi email ini memang memungkinkan pengguna untuk menerima email dari beberapa akun, tetapi ini bukan suatu kelebihan. Hampir semua tablet Android dan iPad sudah bisa melakukan ini sejak pertama kali diluncurkan.

Google Diam-diam Rilis Leaderboard, Ancaman untuk Pesaing?

Pekan lalu, melalui akun Twitter Google Maps, Google mengumumkan rilis terbaru versi Google Maps untuk Android. Pada Tweet tersebut, Google hanya mengumumkan bahwa rilis terbaru meningkatkan performa baterai untuk aplikasi Latitude dan history Location pengguna. Namun ternyata, diam-diam dalam aplikasi Latitude yang tertanam dalam Google Maps, terdapat fitur baru yang bernama Leaderboard.

Yang membuat heboh, fitur Leaderboard ini mirip dengan layanan yang tersedia di Foursquare. The Verge menulis, dengan fitur Leaderboard ini pengguna akan mendapatkan poin ketika melakukan check-in, poin ini kemudian akan dibandingkan dengan teman-teman yang ada di circle Google+ akun tersebut. Selain itu, Leaderboard akan dilengkapi dengan tingkat status mulai dari visitor, regular, VIP, dan guru bergantung pada tingkat keseringan pengguna berada di tempat tersebut. Bedanya dengan Foursquare, Leaderboard ini tidak mengenal status Mayor untuk pengguna yang paling sering check-in di tempat tersebut.

Golden Gate Ventures, Siap Hubungkan Asia Tenggara dengan Silicon Valley

Perusahaan ventura yang akan mulai melakukan bisnisnya berinvestasi di startup di kawasan Asia Tenggara bertambah satu lagi. Golden Gate Ventures, perusahaan ventura yang berbasis di Singapura, mulai membuka pendaftaran untuk startup yang ingin mendapatkan pendanaan. Selang waktu yang tidak terlalu lama setelah munculnya berita tentang investasi Ru-Net di Asia Tenggara, memang menunjukkan menariknya kawasan ini dalam perkembangan bisnis teknologi. Sepertinya, Ru-Net dan Golden Gate bukan dua terakhir yang akan masuk ke kawasan ini.

Menurut Penn-Olson, Golden Gate Ventures sedang menyiapkan dana 10 juta Dollar AS untuk berinvestasi pada startup di Asia Tenggara, terutama di Singapura, Filipina, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, dan Vietnam. Dana tersebut, akan diinvestasikan pada startup yang bersentuhan dengan konsumen melalui internet seperti e-commerce, media sosial, penyedia konten lokal, dan sebagainya. Untuk setiap startup, Golden Gate menyediakan dana berkisar antara 50 ribu sampai 500 ribu Dollar AS.

Golden Gate Ventures Ready To Connect Southeast Asia with Silicon Valley

A Venture company that will begin to invest in a startup business in Southeast Asia increased one again. Golden Gate Ventures, a venture firm based in Singapore, began to open registration for the startup that wants to get funding. The time-gap which wasn’t too long after the news about Ru-Net investments in Southeast Asia did show about this interesting region in the development of technology businesses. Apparently, Ru-Net and the Golden Gate aren’t the last two companies that will go into this area.

According to Penn-Olson, Golden Gate Ventures is preparing a 10 million dollar fund to invest in a startup in South East Asia especially in Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Funds will be invested in the startup that is connected consumers with internet such as e-commerce, social media, local content providers and so on. For each startup, Golden Gate provided funds ranging from USD 50 thousand to USD 500 thousand Dollars.
