Did the Indonesian government order Telkomsel and XL to block news website Asia Sentinel?

In the past two days, there had been suspicion of online censorship that came from the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Informatics. Mobile subscribers trying to access news website Asia Sentinel had been prevented from doing so if they were connecting using Telkomsel or XL numbers. There hasn’t been any clear reason as to why access to this website was being blocked, and why only on Telkomsel and XL networks. The news site is still accessible using other networks and landline connections.

To be a student of State University is the target of most high school graduates in Indonesia. Ngajarin: Interactive Education Service in the Form of Online Playgroup

As usual, I was checking out Startuplokal Showcase and this time I found a child learning project which I think has a pretty interesting visual display. It’s called Ngajar.in [a colloquial term for teaching -Ed].

Ngajar.in can be briefly described as a learning media for children aged 2-6 years and provides facilities for parents who want to teach their children things with the help of the internet. On this site, you or your child can do a couple of things like coloring or playing simple educational games. There several types of options/educational games that can be enjoyed. Among others are lingual, social, logic, musical, visual, kinetic, natural, personal and spiritual. Some of the menus have been accessible but there are some that have not been further developed.

Due to my interest in the visual aspect of this site I contacted Ngajar.in’s initiator, Satriyo Niti Atmojo. Satriyo explained that Ngajar.in was originally a casual project but after a month of work, he managed to add people to work on Ngajar.in, among others, Samuel Philips Kawuwung, Iqqi Phoenix and Fly – all of whom are bloggers from Surabaya – to develop the learning media. Satriyo is currently developing a design studio in Surabaya called Vordaya.

Why Educating the Market Might No Longer Be Relevant

As the e-commerce industry grow, we often see a lot of e-commerce companies trying to bring the e-commerce behavior to a new audience in the country. An emerging country like Indonesia, with all its growing economy and immature internet population is often seen as a target to market conversion.

We’ve seen the signs where big e-commerce players in the country pouring their best efforts to “educate” the market about the benefit of e-commerce, to browse for products, how to pay for stuff online, etc. Millions and millions of dollars are thrown via TV commercials, live TV shows, offline campaigns, etc. again to “educate” the market for the past 3 years but the results are yet to be seen.

FodBoo, Social Networking Candidate for Education

Several days ago, DailySocial received word about FodBoo. Although it’s not really ready to be used, based on the information from its website, FodBoo is a social networking that takes education as its theme.

On the front page that takes shape as a slider, FodBoo displays several of its features. Among them, FodBoo will connect you and your friends at school and outside school and let you share your knowledge with them. You can upload, view and download lesson materials. In addition, like any other social networking, you can share your activity with your friends.

Apparently, every individual who is registered with FodBoo will be grouped according to the school they attend, which then also will be grouped by the province where the school is located. User will be able to find lesson material based on this grouping.
